I broke the bank on airfare to save our March trip!

We will be driving down with 5 people for the same reason....airfare to much.

March 19-23; I have been searching for reasonable airfare from ORD to MCO for months and they have been hovering between $350-$400 RT.

Pricing airfare has been driving me crazy too! We leave for AKV on March 17th and I found one way fares awhile ago on Southwest for $74 each (there will be 4 of us). At that time it was cheaper to fly on a Wednesday instead of Friday-Sunday. The problem was the return trip.. it was around $180-$200 each for the longest time. Finally a few weeks ago I found a one way trip on Airtran for $94 each. Both flights are nonstop. The catch was we have to return on a Monday (28th) instead of the weekend. That means my kids will have to miss 3 days of school and our trip will be pretty long :cool1:. This is the cheapest we have found airfare in a long time. Problem with Airtran is you have to pay for luggage.

It drives me nuts how everyone on the plane is paying different prices!!!

Traveling during Spring break out of JFK to MCO, the cheapest round trip is $343 on JetBlue - ouch!!

Same trip for July is $194. The airlines do the same thing Disney does - raise prices / points for the Easter season because they know they can get away with it.

And with JFK closing its longest runway for several months, the backups are going to be crazy!

Next year, rather than coming for Spring Break for 5 days, we are going to take a longer vacation and drive down.

Something like this is too much for me at least. Cape May is an 11-12 hour drive from my house, and it's too much for me to do in a single day now, well, maybe with a friend for company. I used to do it on a lark, going on Friday, coming home on Sunday by myself with 2 dogs. Those days are gone. Enjoy your driving/saving money days while you can!

WDW is about an additional 3-5 hours than the Cape May trip would be.

Bobbi:goodvibes

We go to our house in the OBX which is 500 miles south from CT. 9-10 hours. Would love to drive to Disney but that is about 20 hours - too bad WDW does not open up a park in the mid atlantic area.

Quirty..

if you are close to ORD on the north side, look into Milwaukee as well. It might sound a little crazy, but the airport is as simple as Midway and the costs for the parking is much easier and cheaper than Chicago-land.

Flights are usually $10 cheaper per seat.

I'm flying out of Milwaukee 3/18 to 3/24 at WDW. I booked Midwest down and Airtran back for $172 RT for each of us. Of course, I booked airfare months ago.

I assume you know this, but if not have you looked at Allegiant Air directly out of Rockford? They fly into Sanford, so you could not do ME, but it looks like you could get them for 99.99 outbound on 3/20 and 139.99 return on 3/28, plus about $20 per passenger in taxes and fees and $14 (per passenger) in "convenience fees" if you book online. You can avoid the convience fee by purchasing at the airport ticket counter.

Usually you can get decent fairs out of Milwaukee, but not currently for your dates. Also parking is $12 per day in Milwaukee, compared to free in Rockford, but over $20 in Chicago.

Thanks. I have been looking at Allegiant but by the time you add on the fee to travel to and from Sanford there isn't much price difference. Plus I'm not crazy about the times of the flights. I'm going to keep checking and see if we wait until closer to our dates maybe we can get some cheaper prices. We have our flights booked already for our Sept. trip and those only cost us a littler over $400 for both of us. Keeping my fingers crossed.

We are going over Easter break, 3 from Phila and my college son from Chicago. Flying Southwest. The airfare was making me crazy, but I kept checking every day. Got $240 total for each of us, way better than the $400 I had been seeing. Still hoping that a Ding might come through.

.

We're OK with driving, it will be our "adventure":cloud9:.

We are driving from Maine. The airfares right now are too steep (we usually get good deals on Southwest out of Manchester, NH but not this time). We drove down last August, it wasn't that bad.
