Called this morning at 9 and got a studio concierge in AK Jambo for Thursday thru Sunday. Now if I can just convince my sister and her DH to go and run too then it will be all good. Concierge room was booked for Wednesday night but opened up for the start of Thursday. Thank you to whoever is checking out so we can stay. :cool1::cool1:

Me too! 1-BR at VWL for Friday-Wed. I've found that it's worth staying a few days after the marathon while the soreness works itself out, and I'm generally back to normal by Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully it won't be quite as cold next year :cold:

My DH just mentioned last night that he wanted to leave on Monday instead. I guess I'll be calling today to try to add a day. Fingers crossed !

Maybe that's us! We are booked AKV Concierge studio , January 3-6 and then moving off property for the marathon weekend. Then back to SSR or BCV (will waitlist at 7 months) from Jan 10-13. We will be checking out early because we are doing the Sunrise Safari. Hopefully you can get in early!

That's great, enjoy AKV! I stayed at BLT with my friend this year, we did the half together. I'm doing the half again next year but I don't think I'll be staying DVC. :( Thinking about POFQ since I love it there, but may just go value for the first time and try out POP.

I see in your sig. your dh is going Goofy, are you a runner too?

I also called on Saturday and booked for the Thursday before the marathon through the following Wednesday in a concierge studio, I wanted Wednesday the 5th as well but it was all booked up so we are doing a value studio for the first night unless the waitlist comes through.

That would be nice. It is always great to get in early. We try to always check out early to let someone else in. Last time we stayed concierge, we left early and someone from the boards got in the room early that we had just vacated.

I will be seeing you in the lounge then !

I now have Thursday before until Monday after so DH will have someplace to shower and change after the race. I was nervous about being able to add a day until she said it was available this afternoon (when I remembered to call) and then it dawned on me that I got it cuz nobody else could book it yet. Yay for the new rules. CM hadn't realized that was why either, she was surprised that it was available too. Thank goodness it's not the 9th yet !

pyrxtc--Awesome job adding that extra day :cool1: You will be so glad that you did especially if it is cold again like this past year. We were so glad to be able to go back to the room to shower and warm up, I am not sure we would have made it otherwise after being outside for 6+ hours in the freezing temperatures brrrrr:scared1:

I'm booked for Marathon Weekend too:banana: We're checking into BWV 2 bedroom Standard view on Jan.6 and staying until Jan. 13. It will be our first trip to our official home:woohoo: Now I just have to train to run 26.2 miles:rolleyes1

I booked a 2BR at BLT for 1/3-1/6 and I'll be staying with TnT over the weekend. I think I'll add on another day or two after the race to relax.

We're booked in a concierge studio at AKV for marathon weekend too! :cool1:

Checking in Thurs, leaving Sunday. No kids! We did the same thing this year, and we spent soooo much time in the lounge. My husband and I were both registered for the half and didn't do it because of how insanely cold it got. We're floridians so that was too cold for our blood. We plan on registering for the half again - we're not runners, its more for the experience.

Its great that 3 DIS'ers have concierge rooms, given there are not many of them! You'll definitely see us in the lounge!

We're booked too! A 2 BDRM for Thurs-Tues at VWL. We have a little bit of everything: I'm running the 5K (will have just had a baby!), DH will do the Half, one friend will be doing the Whole, and another friend will be doing the Goofy Challenge.

So glad we have a trip in the works! I hate not knowing when the next one will be! Now I just have to have a baby between now and then!!! :scared:

we got a two bedroom at Jambo for that weekend but went with value view. The 30 points a night was too good for my cheap self to pass up.

Hopefully it won't be quite as cold next year :cold:

Here in Orlando we are hoping we won't see cold like that again for another ten years. The three words you don't want to hear when visiting Florida are "Record Low Temperatures."

We are starting to train for our first 1/2 marathon at WDW in 2011. I went to book our trip but due to our use year- if we borrowed the points and then canceled we might lose them due to vacation timing. Do you think that weekend is one that books fast or do you think we have some time yet to make sure we are really going to be able to do this race??

You'll have a blast! We checked into a 1-bedroom concierge during the Saturday of Marathon Weekend. It was great seeing all the runners, and we felt that the crowd for the Marathon Weekend didn't impact our touring plans at all. In fact, they were some of the nicest people we've ever met at the World. Good luck to the runners!

The concierge level at Jambo was a fantastic experience. It was our second time staying there (also concierge). The first time was before the resort became part DVC, but the second time was great as well. If you've never done it before, the Sunrise Safari is a must-do. We also saw many runners eating at Boma the night before their race. Enjoy!

We were at BWV/VWL for Marathon Weekend and I would agree! There were 5 runners in our group of 13 and everywhere we went, other runners (complete strangers, mind you) would shake their hands, congratulate them other and give support.

Our favorite moment was Saturday after the 1/2 marathon. We headed to Epcot so the boys could get a celebratory brewskie. Upon coming to the beer kiosk outside the teddy bear store in Germany, we saw a large group of runners who had also run the 1/2 that were just finishing getting theirs. They noticed DH and his friend, raised their glasses and said "CHEERS!!!" as DH and his friend got into line behind them. Great camaraderie!

I think Marathon weekend books up faster than most of January, but I don't think it will be impossible to get a room if you wait a bit. It might be tough if you're going for AKV concierge or BWV standard or Boardwalk view or anything but Lake view at BLT. Other than those specific views I'd think you'll be fine waiting. Maybe ask this question over on the WISH boards and you'll get more response. Other thoughts?

I am not running, the only time I run is if the bears are getting too close while I am outside doing anything. I will be walking the 5k with my DH and I am going to try to volunteer to work the half marathon and maybe pay for the ChEar section at the full so I can actually see my DH cross the finish line.

This year was insanely cold for FL. If I wanted to be that cold I could have stayed home. The year before and the year before that were great temps for that weekend. We are leaving all the kids home this time too. Bad time for them to miss school since they just got off x-mas break. Plus the cost, we were not supposed to do Disney next year but peer pressure got to DH and convinced him to do the Goofy. Trying to plan the whole weekend without entering the parks once. We have the tickets already to use and I will get one for volunteering but I know we can do some things that can't be done with kids in tow. It better be great weather cuz we want to para sail.

I think I should update the first post to all of us who r going that weekend and where we are staying. Also need to figure out how we will recognize each other while in the lounge .... Hmmm !?
