Now that my DJ business is up and running, I was wondering if people would attend a charity / fundraising event that is basically a 70's Disco party? Would you dress the part if you could find the clothes?

On a scale of 1 - 10, and assuming the DJ was good, ;) , how much fun could you have at an event like this? Would you need it to include music from the 80's as well, or would the disco years be enough?

Would you want it to be 3, 4, or 5 hours long? I don't think there can be alchoholic beverages, as it is a YMCA function.

Sorry to ask again, but I couldn't find the old post.

My son's elementary school is having a Parent's Night Out/Fundraiser that is a 70s theme this year. People are paying $30 a ticket. That includes appetizers. I believe the event is 4 hours long 8-midnight (I am not going. We have other plans) and they are definitely serving drinks...cash bar. People are encouraged to dress up, and knowing the people in my town, they will.

So my short answer is yes. I think people would go. As for the fun scale, it really depends on the crowd. I was at a wedding a couple weeks ago, and the DJ played lots of disco (lots of 80s too, but it wouldn't have mattered) and they had to clear tables to make more room for people to dance. That was a 10 on the fun scale.

I would absolutely go, I love 70's music!

PD, my cousin has a very high end, event planning/catering company. Every time we get in a DJ (vs. a band,) I go around and say "someone" :rolleyes1 has requested disco (my favorite music. :thumbsup2 ) Everytime they start palying it, the dance floor fills up to packed capacity as everyone gets up dance! party:  :cool1: :yay: party:
The best parties are where there is a nice long set of disco, then sliding in a set here & there of a nice mix of 80's, 90's & contemporary, & then back to disco. This way there is music & favorites everyone can dance too. You always want to hear your favorite songs at a party in order to get up & dance, & feel you had a great time.

Standards that always get played are:
Electric Slide
Macarena
Grease Soundtrack
It's Ladies Night
Celebration
Saturday Night Fever
I Will Survive (women go crazy, like it's a ritual they MUST dance to :yay: )
Last Dance (my personal favorite :cheer2: )

I would and I have. We even dressed up - I wish I had the picture of DH and I to post. It was a blast. I drank too much, and ignored the advice not to eat the fruit. I was told I ended up in the early 80's, break dancing on the living room floor.

I also have and it was one of the more successful themes for the fundraiser I have to attend every year. People actually did get dressed up and it was the most crowded I have ever seen the dance floor. And best of all I actually had fun this year.

Oh, yeah.....I'd be there :thumbsup2 Check out my outfit

Yes! The 70s were my Jr hi, hi school and college years- I have fond memories of going disco dancing in a in Lake Placid, NY during my college days! Big time (:rotfl2: ) cosmopolitan city - before the Olympics in 1980!!! Woo hoo!!!

Papa Deuce - have you ever heard of a sort of local PA band called Full Effect? http://www.fulleffectband.com/ - They play at Brownies in Ardmore, and this time of year lots of NJ/DE/MD beach bars.

They do a combination of music from the 70's to current, including some KC! My nephew - Chad (Chizzle is his band name) plays the trombone!

Have not heard of them but am all too familiar with Brownies ( formerly the 23 E. Club )....... Must have spent 100 nights in that joint. Now I am too old to go... all those colege kids would toss me out! :teeth:

I would go and I would dress up for sure. We went to a 40th B/D party that was a disco theme and had a blast. Maybe the fact that there was alcohol being served helped a little... ;)
