I am unemployed and getting depressed...

Some other things you could do while you are waiting for that golden opportunity:

Join a toastmasters club.

See if there are any classes for training in EXCEL, etc. from your local employment office.

Find a professional organization related to either what you want to do or what you have experience in...and get involved! While folks may not know of a position for you right away, you never know when those "connections" will help later!

And you definitely have to keep on some temp agencies...especially if you don't really have a "track record" with them...they don't know your work ethic, but if you call them by around 8 am every day and ask if they have anything, they might be more responsive!

Also...I agree with everyone about the holidays...it's hard not to be able to give gifts...but with your freedom, can help out your families and friends in other ways? Maybe offer to babysit for some Moms and Dads who have Christmas parties to attend or who need to go shopping, maybe offer to help clean or bake for parties at friends/family homes...do whatever you can to make yourself "useful" for the holidays and you might feel a little better knowing that you are "needed"...

I hope things turn around for you soon!! :grouphug:

quote from Denisenh:Take a shower and get dressed everyday, no matter what. Go for a walk. Smile. You are alive! There is a WHOLE world out there. Go do something new. Talk to anyone about anything.

The above poster had a great piece of advice.I have also been unemployed since September 28th.I get up (4-5am every day),take a shower, get dressed and then go and do things I never had the time (or energy) to do while I was working 40 hour weeks.
It's difficult,I know.I've sent out dozens of Resume's and went to a few interviews and just seem to hit a dead end.But keep your chin up and keep thinking positive thoughts!
I'm sure a job will come your way soon!!

Again, thanks for the advice. At first, I was getting up at the crack of dawn and I would go out and do things (things hat didn't cost money of course). I would work out 3 to 4 times a week. It wasn't that bad. I think I was in a state of denial. But now recently, I'm sort of in a slump you could say. Its the worrying that does me in, I worry about tomorrow, about next month whether or not I will be able to pay my bills.. I do spend alot more time with my Niece, it keeps my mind off of things, plus it makes her happy too :)

This needs to stop, I need to take your advice and will..

Keep trying all the online sites, I used three when I was looking and easily applied to 10-20 jobs per week. The job I have now I could have had earlier if I just would have submitted my resume, instead I got the job two months later. Check actual company websites. I found that many companies didn't advertise they were hiring anywhere but their website. Is relocating an option? Good luck, it took me 5 months to find a job after I graduated college and I know of friends where it took even longer.

I can certainly sympathize with you. I have been out of work for over 13 months now. I worked at the same company for almost 20 years and it was my first job out of college so I'm very rusty when it comes to job hunting. If you decide to look for a temporary position I would suggest going to a recruiter that recruits for both full time and temporary jobs, that way they are familiar with you in the event that a full time job comes in while you are doing something on a temporary basis. When I went to outplacement counseling they told me that 70% of all jobs come through networking so that's the best thing you can do. I would also suggest posting your resume on websites such as monster and hotjobs. Good luck.
