Trying to rent a car for 8 days is astronomical! if you can get a decent rate the extra charges are killing me! I'm debating on whether or not to skim a day off my trip to get the rate down almost 65!
If I can't get something at a better rate I will definitely be booking Happy limo again! I just wanted a car so that I could get to DTD whenever I wanted without taking too long to get there. WE like to go there a couple of times during a trip. I may just end up renting a car for one night or possibly taking a cab to DTD from the resort. Anyone know how much that costs?

You didn't say when you trip is. I couldn't get a decent rate for my June trip, so booked a compact on Dollar with the FVG code and got a $124.99 weekly rate. I believe that is $161 total. While not the best I've ever gotten, and I would prefer a larger car, this is the best I've come up with. I've booked it and hope that summer special will be out soon. Most of the specials on Dollar are due to end mid-May. I believe that a minivan is still $219 with the FVG rate (but haven't checked lately). Since Dollar does not require a cc to hold a ressie, it's no big deal to change if something better comes along. I'm an EA member on National, but have not seen any deals on National lately. I only use National and Dollar.

I am going in sep. I am almost tempted to cut a day off my trip to save on the car, but its till high!

... with National in September. Intermediate class for 11 days costing $302 all-up.
Ive included the breakdown for you. Please note that this is with the Disney Club discount (DC discount = $85.49, DC membership = $39.95 so I'm saving the difference $45.54 BUT with the entertainment book that comes with DC membership I also get Nationals class upgrade and other discount vouchers so I'll be using those to upgrade to standard or full-size!) AND I have just bought a WDW Premium Annual Pass through DC which will give me more discounts at National.

I wonder if I can get it down so they pay me! Disney Club - Best $39.95 I've spent in a while.

Just bought discount parkhoppers for WDW and DLR so it keeps getting better!

I used the FVG code with Dollar and got the Neon for $227.69 for 10 days. Lowest price I found.

... use the FISH promo code!

Its the best! Better than those on Mousesavers.
Let us know how you go.

You may want to make the reservation so you have it, but keep checking rates, you can always cancel it with no charge. They usually go down towards the end of summer, when you get closer to September they may be lower.

I used the FISH code and the grand total for a compact is 195! much better than what I have been finding on other agencies including dollar for any size car! thanks again!

... glad to be of assistance.

Its the best discounts sans membership to any card, club or program.

Additional tip: You can join Fastlane (Dollar express service) for free. You get your own express line but cant dodge a counter visit unfortunately. Not as good as Emerald Aisle at National but the next best thing.

I just reserved a full size, through AVIS, signed up for preferred service and with entertainment coupon and their AWD code - for 8 days with taxes and surcharges the rate was $232.00. We are going in July. With my DC discount and code for National Emerald Aisle that rate was $285.00 - AVIS, for us, still came out better. We have never used AVIS before, so we have our fingers crossed. Hope this helps someone!

Do you need any verification at the counter when using the FISH code? It's not like a coupon I take it?

I am an EA member and am getting a pretty good deal with them but Dollar has good discounts on convertibles which with the nice weather is really tempting. So far I haven't lucked out with EA with getting a convertible especially since we get there so late at night.

... try as I might.
I have not been able to find the source or requirements for the FISH code.

Its one of those things that has been passed down thru the board. It may pay to scour the boards for past users of the code and ask them what was required. If worse come to worse, you could always ring Dollar.

What is Emerald Aisle? The cheapest rate I got with AWD code from avis for 8 days and 17 hours is $328.00. That is also including $20.00 off coupon. Does emerald aisle bring your rate down? Now, the best I have is dollar for $303.00. That is with fvg code. The car I am getting is an intermediate. Anybody know how to get this rate down? thanks corvair, i tried fish and it was the same as fvg.

Corvair Emerald Aisle is a feature of Nationals Emerald club membership. Pick a vehicle from the Aisle regardless of what you book and drive off with it. So you book an intermediate or fullsize but may end up picking from a convertible, SUV, Minivan etc The worse that will happen is you get the car you booked. Emerald Aisle requires membership to the emerald club ($50 or free thru Disney Club)

Yes FVG has been returning the same as FISH for my dates but has not for some. I am still investigating this.

I have an Intermediate booked for 13 days thru National via Disney Club for 321.00 total (inc tax, all surcharges plus full LDW). Plus I am looking to upgrade to full-size or better via the entertainment book for free.

Emerald Aisle is a service for National's Emerald Club members. If you belong to Disney Club, you can get a free Emerald Club card, otherwise it's $50. With Emerald Aisle, you do not have to go to the counter, you just head straight to National's garage and pick a car from the row marked Emerald Aisle. You have to reserve an intermediate, standard or full size to use Emerald Aisle. Sometimes there are larger cars in the aisle that you can choose for a free upgrade (sometimes, not always, no guarantee). You check-out at the booth on the way out. When you join Emerald Club, you have to give them all your credit card, license, frequent flier info, so that have that all on file, they just run it through and you are on your way.

At least I'm not alone in this sticker shock for rentals right now. I keep checking, so far Dollar has the best rate, but I still may just go with Happy limo.

For the 1st time in all my visits I'm considering a limo also. EA quote of $300.00 is just out of line if I can get most of my groceries delivered through Netgrocer and a grocery stop for perishables. I don't mind paying $75.00 to $100.00 extra for the convenience of a car, but $200.00+ .

the Legend,

DC gets you that much of a disc? I have an AP and I didn't know there was a disc at National with the AP. Where would I find the code?

Thanks,
Alice

... know that Disney Club gets 15% off rack via the contract ID on site. Use this inconjunction with the coupon also on the DC website and you get one day weekday free if you rent over a weekend. The entertainment book which comes with the Disney Club membership also has several vouchers for National, which I am hoping to take advantage of (one-class upgrade, two-class upgrade, $20 off, free days etc) as well as other rental companies (Avis, Budget and Hertz etc).

... Re: AP rate - National Car Rental - 10% off daily, weekly and Weekend Leisure Rates with National Car Rental® by calling (800) CAR-RENT (227-7368) or by booking online at www.nationalcar.com. Specify contract ID #6600411 when you make your reservations. Must show AP at pickup.

Come to think of it ... you cant enter two contract IDs ... so I went with DC!
