I am starting to think that a visit to Disneyworld in March is a bad idea

I have no idea what the crowds are like in March? We were planning on going the week of the 13th. I called the company that we normally rent a home through to see if they have any March deals available (we usually book last minute). Nope. So does that mean that all their clients have their homes rented out for the whole month of March and there will be big crowds in the parks? I thought that Easter being in late April this year would make March less busy, or not a problem. Does anyone have some input?

I don't know how much this affects the crowds at WDW or Florida but the spring break for Ontario, Canada is that week...
Mid-Winter Break: March 13 to 17, 2006, inclusive

This will be our 4th year during spring break (mid march). I beleive it will be busy or steady, but March 13th should be just ahead of the really large crowds. Thats the way it was last year - crowds grew through the week, but very manageable.

I really don't think you will have a problem with crowds at that time. We went the 1st week in March last year and only used Fast Pass once-- we never waited more than 10-20 minutes on line. We stayed at the All Star Movies, and waiting for buses wasn't a problem either. I would love to go back in March, but we weren't able to fit it in until May for this year.

We usually go offseason, like October or Early December so going in the Spring is a new thing to us. I realize that everyone's going to have a different idea of what busy or crowded is. We never go to the parks on the weekend. Knowing that the week we are going is Spring Break for Canadians kind of scares me. Canadians don't do Spring Break the before or after Easter? That's interesting!

Well, that week is "spring break" for us (we're not canadians). I think in our area only the religious schools have spring break based around easter.
This will be our second time going this same week. I didn't find it too crowded to enjoy at all. Use fastpass, plan your time, get there early, etc etc. It will be fine. Most of the really big crowds shoudn't hit until later in the month, and of course, the week around easter will be extremely crowded.

That is spring break for elementary and upper level schools in your area? We live in MI and all the schools have spring break the week before or after Easter, not just the parochial schools. I thought maybe we'd be dealing with college breaks, but not lower level schools being off. I actually have a college break the week we were going to go :scratchin .

We went the same week two years ago (spring break week around here) and although it was crowded, the weather was nice and the temperatures were pleasant, so it was a very enjoyable trip. We used the Unofficial Guide's recommendations and touring plans, and we had no trouble seeing everything we wanted to see without much wait. The afternoons did get quite crowded, but we left at that time for our mid-day break and came back in the evening.

I say don't worry about the crowds too much...you'll have a wonderful time if you tour wisely and don't overdo it! Have fun! :bounce:

That's college spring break for us...the elementary/high schools are off later in the month. Many of the college students who are going as part of "band trips" are staying at the Value resorts...so they could be noisey!

I'll be there with cheerleaders March 24-31

Don't forget your pom poms Barb! :rotfl2:

I'll be there the 19th - 22nd, but just to go to Jellyrolls, we're skipping the parks this trip (except for a quick run over to EE) :hippie:

That's Spring Break for most Texas elem/high schools and it is college break for Texas universities also ....
Spring comes early here ....

well, we are going down march 15-20th for a cheerleading competition. i would have thought this time of year wouldn't be that busy.

You'll be fine! We go over our spring break every year which is the last week of March. Last year in was also Easter week, YIKES! That was crazy busy. Generally though it is the most busy at the MK, but, not horrible.

Have fun!

Here in northern IL, we have spring break March 24 - April 2. We will be going down on March 23 - April 4th. During Easter we only get Good Friday off.

I have been down to WDW during our spring breaks many times thru the past 7 years. It really varies as far as crowd level. I have seen it awesomely empty or awfully crowded. I do have some hope that it won't be too bad, but I am just not going to worry about it and that way I won't be disappointed if it is pretty crowded. We just won't know until we get there.

Last year for spring break, we went to Hawaii. I was SHOCKED at how many college age spring breakers were in Hawaii!! There are a lot of different choices for spring break, so maybe people will go somewhere else!!! :goodvibes

Happy planning!

We went in March last year (05) and the crowds weren't that bad really. (We were there at Christmas too, and that was triple the crowd)
MGM was sorta busy with the cheerleading competition....but no biggie really. My youngest DD rode ToT 3 times in a row. So that gives you an idea of how not a big deal it was with the crowds.
The buses weren't too bad either.
The weather was awesome! It did rain 2x (one downpour in the afternoon at MK and once at night when we had planned to go to DwnTwn Disney)
We had a nice time and I would def. go back in March.
I might have to try and make it back next year...I'm already having withdrawls. (I'm thinking it may just be a DH and Me trip, my teens are getting burned out!! OMG! Can you imagine??)
:wizard:
So, if you want to book a March trip, I'd say go for it!! :)

I think you'll be okay--of course, use FP, ADR's, Unofficial Guide to stay ahead of the crowds. We went to WDW the year our Spring Break fell during Easter week--never agin. That was too much for us, and we like crowds! :)

I'm there March 22-29 this year party: . We were there the 8th-15th last year, and yes it is VERY busy, but it's Disney, and they plan for that :flower1: . Just plan things out well. Know that you will wait in lines, and there are going to be a lot of people at the parks :crowded: . You're going to have a blast anyway pixiedust: !!!

I just found out that Orlando Public Schools have their spring break the week of March 13th. That's enough to make me reschedule our trip! We have four little kids (6, 4, 2, 2) and it would be no fun hanging out in lines for hours in the hot sun with them. I prefer to go when it's not a peak week and be able to get on rides within 20 minutes or less! Now looking at May, maybe...........

We went last year right before easter week and it was SUPER crowded. We barely got fast-passes for the more popular rides for the evening early in the morning! MK was open until midnight, and thinking that we *may* just get to ride space mountain if we went late, we still showed up at 11 to find a 180 minute wait...
I have personally vowed to never go during March again if I can help it!!!
:crowded:
