That is the most horrible thing I've ever heard. My heart goes out to that family. I'm speechless.

To put your mind at ease & anyone else's mind who might read this, this is not true. This is an Urban Legend. I have seen this story several times and with different variables like snakes in the bottom of an outside pit & a needle with AIDS on it rather than heroin. McDonalds & the other restaurants have debuffed this myth as well as the urban legend groups that do nothing but research email chain letters to verify their truth. One of the more popular sites is:

UrbanLegends.Com

Don't believe anything you read in your email until you independantly research it yourself. Lots of lies & myths floating around out there. Hope this helps & puts your minds at ease! :)

as realistic as they could possibly be, its nothing more than an urban legend. This email has been around for a long time, using various newspapers as sources. (houston chronicle) varuious parts of Texas (sugarland for one) and various dates of occurrence (anywhere from 1992-1994)
McDonalds and the various newspapers (those that are real that is) have printed various disclaimers.
There is also one that has been going around for a long time about baby rattlesnakes in ball pits too!
OF course, it is possible that needles, sharp objects, or, even more realistically, dirty diapers, etcc. could be in the ball pits. they are not exactly the cleanest places for your kids to play in.
But, this story is just a hoax that has been around a long time.
Don't feel bad, people fall for it all the time! ;)

I'm so glad to hear that. I've had this vision in my mind for the past few hours of that poor little boy. It's really bothered me.

Glad to hear that this really didn't happen. Thank God!

The web can be just so deceptive. Think about it. If you just hear a rumor the old fashioned way, its easy to question the validity. Don't you usually at least ask the bearer "Who told you...how did they know?". And, most often, you KNOW the bearer!

But if the info comes in an email or on a web page, it sneakily inherits some of that validity and reputableness we normally attribute to things in print - good reliable print. We expect things in print to have some content quality controls. Even the trashiest bit in the most ridiculous tabloid has some reporter who made a few $$ for the piece, and they technically have to have some kind of source, other than their immagination, for the information. The information can be tracked one way or another. Not so on the web.

When you see web hype, don't view it as you would an article in a decent newpaper, or even as a rumour from a co-worker. It doesn't even have the inherent validity of the trashiest tabloid piece you ever read. If you wouldn't take it to heart off a tabloid, you need to be even less willing to do it from electronic media. Its totally anonymous, and the content is totally uncontrolled.
