Being from Syracuse, I totally feel your pain.
We were at WDW when the East Coast Blizzard of March 93 hit. We were supposed to fly home on a Saturday. After waiting four hours in line at MCO, we were told we couldn't fly home until Tuesday. We got home to 3 feet of snow in our driveway.
Then there was the February 03 trip when we woke to a blizzard on departure day. I called my dad and told him not to bother taking us to the airport in his Buick. We were going to take our Yukon. Glad we did cuz there were cars off the road all along the route to the airport. We took off a little late and ended up having to pull an OJ Simpson run in DC. The plane waited for us.
Thankfully we now have a direct to MCO. It's worth the extra money to not have to connect during the winter months. We can handle a foot of snow better than other east coast airports can handle a couple of inches.
Hope everything goes well for you.
