Our last trip on Mar. 5 - 12 began with the biggest snow storm of the season here in MN. I was up at 3:00 AM to blow snow out of the driveway and the trip to the airport was white knuckle. Our flight was delayed because only 1 runway was open, but we made it. I was exhausted.
So tomorrow is the next trip. Yup. Another 12 inches of snow is on the way so I will be up at 3:00 AM to blow snow again. Worried about getting to the airport and whether the flight will even leave. This time I will have an 8 year old boy who has never been brave enough to travel without mom and dad. Not fair, Mother Nature. It is supposed to be Spring!!!
Here's hoping I am not dealing with holding points as well as exhaustion.
End of vent.

Jean, I hope it goes better than the forecast is implying!pixiedust:

You are definitely in need of lots of pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Let's hope that the weather forecaster is wrong or at least, greatly exaggerating.... :goodvibes

Saying a prayer that all goes well and that the predicted storm is just rain, beautiful rain. No more (four letter word that starts with s) !!!

If I knew where that darn weatherman lived, I'd pay him a visit and explain things. It is just wrong to smile when you are calling for snow in mid-April!!!!

This is what I suggest.

Get To The Choppa!!!!!! :lmao:

In other words, leave...leave now! Try to get a flight tonight into MCO. If the airline knows it is going to be a train wreck, especially if this is Delta through MSP, then they will likely accommodate you.

Otherwise, head to the airport tonight and get a room with an airport shuttle (or attached if that is possible). This way you can sleep in (not arise at 3AM) and have a refuge if there are significant delays.

In fact, make two bookings. One for tonight and one for tomorrow, especially at a hotel with a 6PM check-in cancellation policy. That way you can cancel if you get on the plane, but have another option close to the airport if not.

However in the end if I learned a blizzard was coming on day of travel, I'd be heading to the airport the day before and on the phone with the airline asking for a free rebooking.

Get out!! Get out nowww!!!! :rotfl2:

I'm from Chicago and, though it is bad here, sometimes we are like the tropics in comparison. I had the fortune and misfortune to be in St. Paul on business that first full week of March. It was a good time to be inside. It seems that every time I go to Minneapolis/St. Paul, it is snowy and cold. The first time I ever flew there on business was on a November 1 decades ago. I left Chicago and it was close to 55 degrees. I arrived in Minneapolis and you had 8 inches of snow on the ground and its was 15 degrees.

Despite that I actually like Minneapolis and St. Paul. A lot of good restaurants in the cities, that restaurant row across and along the river in Minneapolis, the winter underground walkway, the mansion row in St. Paul, and of course that city-size amusement park you call a mall south of the highway.

Nevertheless, even those who choose to live in Minnesota deserve spring by this time of year and I feel for you.

I'm like Henry Hill.....I don't want to go anywhere that's cold. Luckily we've had a mild(slightly extended until last week) winter here in NJ. Hope it works out for you. Here's some pixiedust: as you will need it. I like the idea of hotel at the airport tonight to avoid that snow shoveling.

SNOW??? What is this...snow?

I drove Miami-Orlando last Thursday with some heavy rain for about an hour. And we had fog in Miami 10 days ago, but only until about 9 AM.

What is snow?

Have a great trip Jean!

Hoping you a safe hassle free trip!

We have had your situation on 3 occasions since traveling from the N.East in Feb. All three times, the travel agent in me, flew the coop a day or 2 early and I am a family of 5. All three times it paid off because our original flights were canceled and getting another flight during school break would have been a nightmare and missing days of our trip :scared1: - in all cases the airlines SW twice and Delta once charged me for the change up front but refunded the charge once the original flight was canceled - well worth it to me!

Good luck and have FUN!

Jean, I hope you can take off. Snow in April is just ridiculous! Good luck. May you be relaxing in the Florida sunshine hassle free soon. :beach:

Good news: The storm was very late so no slow blowing this morning.
Bad news: The snow is coming down HARD now and we have been waiting on the Tarmac for one hour. Get me outta' here!

Oh...I wish there wasn't any bad news. GRRRR....Gosh couldn't it have waited another few hours.:rolleyes2

That's why I moved to FL.

The good news is that its really nice down here right now. No snow in the forecast:thumbsup2

I hope you finally got out of here, Jean! It has been snowing at our house all day. The good thing is that it has been around 35 degrees most of the day, so it snows and melts, but we still have about 4-6 inches of accumulation. Be sure you bring some Florida sunshine back home with you! I am so sick of winter!

Yea this weather up here is painful, hope the upper 80's all week make up for it.

Have fun and yes...stay cool. :beach:

I feel for you. We went twice in February and I worried both times about snow storms. We prefer and are going in November this year. Hope everything worked out for you and that you have a great trip!

Someone posted on the transportation board that they had a SW flight out of MSP late this morning. I checked the website this afternoon, it was about 90 min late.
