This is the most embarrassing thing ever..I am leaving TOMORROW for Disney World and yesterday I had a flare up of hemorrhoids. This is the first time that I have had anything this painful!!! It is very uncomfortable to sit and we are DRIVING 12 + hours!! I am about in tears. I can't get into to see my Dr. before I leave. Is there anything that will help with this????
I apparently have done something terrible to be punished for!!:sad2::scared1:

Preperation H and Tucks wipes...you'll be okay...put a pillow or one of those donut thingies in the car to sit on

My husband had this problem when we went in January . He went to the doctor when he got back and got a prescription cream that worked wonders for him. But most importantly was staying regular, he started to take Metamucil that was also very helpful. Constipation increases or worsen hemorrhoids, and yes he would be mortified if he new I posted this.

prep h tucks witch hazel and metamucil. Bring all of thses and you will be ok within 24 hrs! and the donut/pillows will most likely help with the ride! Good luck! Have a great time!

This might be one of those times that the doctor can call a prescription in for you without you visiting the office, considering the circumstances.

On our last trip in October 2008, my sister developed a boil in a not so comfy place. We got her a blow-up donut and she carried around with her the entire trip! She never let it get her down, even though I'm sure she was hurting pretty badly! Best of luck!

Soak a washcloth or cotton pad (the round or square ones you get by the cotton balls) with Witchhazel. This feels cool on the skin and it causes the blood vessels to shrink. You might have to do it a couple times a day but it works. And TMI plus it sounds icky but keep the area in question lubricated with ky or vasoline, or hemmorioid gel or something similar so things leave smoothly.

Oh and double you water and fiber intake.

*****TMI WARNING*****

After I had my son I got hemorroids BAD!!
In the hospital they would give me cotton pads soaked in witchhazel which I left "in place" while I was seated. When I got home I used Prep H with an internal applicator. I also put some on the outside. Between the Prep H and the pads soaked in witchhazel I was feeling much better in a couple of days.

Drink lots of water and take fiber. I use Benefiber packets that I add to my water. I NEVER want to go through that again!!!

Hang in there :goodvibes

Exact same thing happened to me after DD. OMG! But the witchhazel and Prep H helped a lot, and pretty fast! Tucks medicated pads have the witchhazel on them, and yes, leave them in place till next time you go potty, then replace.

Best of luck, OP, and it also couldn't hurt to call the Dr. and see if there's something even better that he/she could call in for you. And get a donut for the car ride!!!!!!

Pressing an icecubes against the hemoroids helps too.

Now you will sit in a car, sitting on a doughnut shaped thingy will actually increase the pressure on your hemoroid which will make it bitter. Try getting a woodenboard to sit on. Its not that comfortable, but if you want the hemoroids to get smaller, it works as a charm. Because sitting ON your hemoroids will actually force them to become smaller.

Good luck on your trip!

Was just about to say this! My OB freaked when she found out I was doing this after I had my DD. I would recommend a stool softener. We also swear by health nut bread to help move things along, so to speak.
Tucks pads are the BEST! Also, if you plan on really nipping this in the but, the Preparation H suppositories will help much more than the cream.

I don't know if you are checking this thread, but the only thing that worked for me was Proctosol. It's a steroid your doc can call in. If you are in major pain, get that called in ASAP and you will start feeling better in a day. It actually treats the problem, not just relieves the pain.

Yes, I agree! Proctosol was the only thing that worked for me too.

Can I tell an OT hemherroid story? Early, during my first year working as a nurse, I was told to go dress Mr "ABCs" wound on his bottom. Bacitracin, normal saline, self adhesive bandage..I'm ready to go. Mr ABC was not an old guy. Just the opposite, he was about 45 or 50, and quite alert. He rolled over and I saw a small monster poke its head at me. I cleansed and dressed the area, and Mr ABC rolled over and asked me how it looked. I didn't really know what to say. "Painful."

When I returned to the nurses desk, I asked my co-worker where was Mr ABCs wound, exactly. She told me it was on the left cheek (in my defense, it was tiny!) I had dressed his hemherroid. :sad2:

Good luck with your problem. Sounds like you've gotten a lot of great advice.
