I am livid!! VMK safe for kids HA... updated with important info on page two!!

Lately i have been hearing really bad thing about vmk, mainly this... i really can't get on vmk to hang around as much anymore. Usually when i am on getting the daily credits or such then off. I always get into a room and hear "wonderful" language, not sexual but vulgar language. I admit i didn't report them, i ask them not to do that and most of the time they disappear from the screen. i guess ban, but also could have moved on else where.

Well if the staff is so small, maybe their time would be better spent answering the reports than reading what is going on in private rooms, instantly banning and then taking the time to come into the room and scold the others left behind for TALKING about the ban!!! I bet if they would not busy themselves with eavesdropping alot of those unanswered reports would be able to be answered. - To my pirate dis buds! We love ya travelocity! -

I don't think you quite understand how vmk is moderated. There is a computer program that monitors all of the text in the game. There are also human moderators. The computer mod picks up certain keywords. Most likely, your friend alerted the computer mod, which resulted in his ban. Never discuss a ban in the game! This will also alert the computer mod. I know it's hard to understand, but the computer program is there to truly keep vmk 'G' rated. That does include the guest rooms, and it has happened to others before.

Although i never saw any of tonight's offenders, I have been told in the past by various staff that we should always report in as much detail as possible if sending in a report. When using the report button in game, sometimes it is difficult as we are bound by the vmk dictionary, but the most detailed information we can provide the better the staff can handle the situation. Do NOT repeat any offensive or rule violating chat in game (i.e. re-telling it to a friend), but you can repeat in the report form.

I have always reported in detail what was said. Because of that I have seen people vanish from rooms. Mind you they could just leave the room, but to me it looks like the got the boot.

Always be specific in your reports.

I can not believe that those people did not get banned immediately!!!

The other night, a friend of my sister and I, asked where my sister was. Both my mom and I (we were both on at the time), answered with the same exact thing at the same time "on the land line." And instantly, I was banned for two hours. :furious: My mom was not banned.

I'm pretty sure that "Land line" is a phrase that triggers immediate ban, but what I said was not nearly as bad as what these people said (I am guessing from your posts).

My thought is, if they are not going to take the proper action at the right time, then might as well have VMK open 24/7. I think that it would be a lot more convenient for others to have it open all day, and IMO, I don't think that there would be a big difference in moderating than there is now.

They need to loosen the discionary restriction for sending reports. Often when I am trying to accurately describe something and in writing a detailed report it take so much time to fix it to VMK standards that I just end up editing it until it is half of the information.

I'm glad it eventually got under control.

I hope we don't see that again for a while. Not what we want with the holidays coming.

It was funny at one point, with DIS members lined up on one side of the street, like some Guardian Angel punk group on steroids run amok! Grumpy in his trademark green hero suit and pink princess hat, for one! (sorry grump, but I just love the look!)

I could see us on some virtual street, looking to kick some virtual bottom.

You wanna piece of DIS?!?

You feel lucky, punk!

I had to find the humor in it somewhere!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OMG! I missed all this last night! I'm happy to know that staff is trying to work on these types of situations and I'm happy to know what we can do to help in these instances. :goodvibes

I know. I have this problem every time I try to report someone.

I don't know if it is a do-able fix or not. But I do wish that the language restrictions in reporting were relaxed. It would make it so much easier to report those offenders. :sad2:

Yeah it logs me off when I do it too. I'd love someone to shed some light on how to do this.

So I asked bears where should we send the bill to for the credits we lost protecting the streets of VMK. We lost probably 3000 credits each :rotfl:
Had to end on a happy note :)

Night all!

I am not sure where you can send the bill but I believe you and Bears both deserve a Gold Star for your actions last night. I know I was there for about 3 hours watching Sheriff Ace and Bears patrolling the Main street and Town Square and keeping our virtual town safe.

Before the power went out on me, I received a strange message in VMK from
Rob that I couldn't figure out.

Ok, NOW I understand that message, and all I can say is, "Wow."

I understand what you're saying Goofy05, I guess I just feel like the word we used was fairly innocent (in my eyes anyway) and if that should trigger the computer mod, then surely what the kids on main street were saying should trigger a computer mod too. However, I am going to chalk it up to vmk being unfair like life and get over it, move on, and get back to having fun in this game. :goodvibes

Sometimes it isn't fair with the banning. One of my friends was suppose to be banned for a really long time. But did that person get banned? Of course not! Some people get banned for dumb things, (like I have) and some can do the worst things ever and not get banned. When I report someone if they're saying a bad word I say: "This person said ' <dictionary dancing> ! ' ( .. ) " In the parentheses I put what they really meant to say. Though, someone said personal info and didn't get banned. It really makes me angry. :furious:

Quite vulgar indeed. At one point insulting the Disney company itself. And there is actually 2 of them...maybe more. Unless somebody can type on two computers at once. I was in a room with one of them, and a friend in another and they were talking at the same time.

The big problem is I tell everybody to ignore and they say they do, but they are not and then they start responding to the offender who of course likes that so he can say more. -_-'

It's called "trolling". Someone saying things just to get a response from people, any response. Ignore them, act like they are not there and they get bored and go away. Respond to them, and they are there forever. I've seen list where they are there for months/years because people keep responding to them.

Same here. You can't report them, because the form won't let you. It is so frustrating that my anger changes from the offensive person to the offensive report form. i generally end up not reporting them
1) because I can't,
2) because if VMK really wanted to do something about it - they wouldn't have such poor reporting practices.

Knowing the word that was used, I can see why it was an auto-warn/ban word. Because kids can use it in a more than friendly way, if you get what I mean.

I agree that in context it was innocent, but computers don't look at context and it was probably added to the computer because of how kids used it.

First... if they can say in on VMK you can say it in a report... just write word for word what they said....

And Rob... Bug and I were not the only ones helping out last night... there were many others... some DISer's but a lot of NON disers too.....

And we all did ignore them... we mearly moved their text up and out... (although at one time I did comment on their sad lonely lives....)

You are quite right. I am fairly new to the game and to our great dis board so I am still learning. I also know by taking a stand on this, there will be ppl who get upset with me for my posts, I apologize for that. I really am trying to see both sides.

I believe, however, my point still stands. Ok fine, the computer program flagged. But he was banned and my other friend was not. (Yes, I am glad she was not banned.) And a program did not come into the room, a staff memeber came into the room. AND she was quite rude to me (I did not say anything worthy of a flag).

It just seems to me they would better spend their time on the x rated things going on in the game where children are present instead of eavesdropping! AND why can we not discuss the ban afterwords??? Is that a rule I missed somewhere? We were not saying any bad words in our discussion? I do not understand that at all. Are you not allowed to utter any unhappiness? We have also written in the past when we especially like something staff has done. So staff only wants kudos from us? That is a very one sided and very small of vmk if that is true. We were irked. We were discussing it. Big deal. We love you travelocity! But as cat said, I will get over this and move on and go back to enjoying the game! Go Dis Pirates!

use the contact us link on the home page and you can say anything you want, and fully describe the incident.

I've had to do tht a few times, and it works.

I was very angry yesterday. I first went to central plaza and witnessed one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard/read. I reported the person and I got a response that said, " We are going to look into this problem. " This made me very angry. The Guest that was doing left the room and I thought that this was the end of it. Boy was I wrong....

I saw two guests on Main Street and another in the esplanade. I decided to go directly to a staff member to see if they would take care of it. Not only did they not do anything they just said, Do not message me about these problems. Use the help button and the help button only

I decided not to say anything but I really wanted to say, if you were doing your job correctly and banning these people immedietly, we would not have a problem.

Back when I was banned for a misunderstanding, they sure got rid of me very quickly.

It just goes to show the real safety of vmk
