I am going to Disneyland and I think that I am going to toss cookies!

I hate flying myself, but I still do it because what would life be if you didn't explore your world and live and experience all it's diversities?! You know what I mean?:goodvibes

While on the plane just sit back, turn on a great movie on a portable DVD player, and order a cocktail or two (or three). Trust me, you'll be feeling GREAT!:drinking1  :p

I agree a cocktail or two is good, try one before you board. I hate flying, but love what I can do when I fly. I try very hard to make sure my dd doesn't get that it scares me.......Keep the goal in mind. (also I find an Asile seat helps....)

At least I am not alone in my fear! I hate airplanes as well but do it because I feel like I have to in order to have fun. Take something that will keep your mind off the plane, like a movie, book, or mp3 player with your favorite tunes. Good luck.

Ask your doctor for some Xanax. It can really help, its very mild but can make your life much easier on the plane. I also usually take one the night before so that I can get a decent night's sleep. Definitely take a portable DVD player (at some airports you can rent them, then turn them in at the next airport), CD player, a book whatever you need to distract you. I didn't fly for nine years but then started again and while I will never be a relaxed flyer, I do it just fine. And I love going to DL and WDW so its worth it to not give into my fear. You will be fine. Just remember, its far and away the safest method of travel.

I am afraid of flying cancell trips then rebook them, cost me more money in the long run and I end up going anyways. I figure if I don't I will never go anywhere, zillions of people fly each day and everything is fine. I figure and I hate to be crass but we are all going to die some how, some way some day so I just sit back relax and go. Try coming driving the Xway in Boston, you have a greater risk of getting in a major accident. Go and have a FUNtastic time and enjoy life, it's way to short and chances to do other things don't come our way everyday :)

I have flown my whole life, sadly about 2 years ago I acquired a fear of flying, for no reason at all. It is HORRIBLE. I sweat, jump, get upset in the stomach, and everything, but I still have to fly. I recently asked my dcotor for a script and she gave me xanax, I have not flown since I got the script, but I have that, I also have big headphones that cover my whole ear and my portable DVD player. I also have my nintendo DS. So lots of thigns to do, hopefully the xanax helps.

Hi BTP!

I fly quite frequently from RI to LA (for work and previously for love) and I know it's a tough flight. But it's actually better than short trips in a lot of ways. You have time to calm down a little and actually enjoy the flight, or really fall asleep or whatever. The parts I hate are the take-off and landing, so long trips give me a chance to recover from take-off before getting all worked up again about the landing.

I don't know who you are traveling with, so these suggestions may not work, but this is one time when I would recommend a little pharmaceutical/alcoholic help. I've found that having a drink or two (or seven) before I get on the plane makes it all so much better. And on those horrible red eyes when I'm crammed into the middle seat between really big/tall people I find a Xanax will knock me out quite nicely for the duration.

I also listen to meditation tapes on my iPod.

Whatever, just keep Disneyland in sight. If you're excited enough about the destination, the trip will be that much easier. :smickey:

Aaaand... if you do happen to blow chunks... the flight attendants might just feel bad for you and give you some extra goodies or a bump up to first class.

Hope you have a fabulous time!

flying, i HATE it...but have now made the trip to WDW(too long from bc) and the trip to DL(much shorter, much better)....When i booked our trip last february to go to DL in may, within a couple of weeks i wasnt feeling well and my heartrate was crazy...i finally went in to the doc who ran an ekg( i was only 36-turned 37 on the trip) and everything was fine...it was like this on and off until just before our trip and then it was fine and i realized it was all stress...funny thing is once leave for the airport i am actually ok, i think because i dont want to pass on the fear to my kids..on the plane i just pretend life is great and try to focus on a book, or music, or talking to the kids and things are ok...I sure wish i could just snap my fingers and get where i want to go, that would be so much easier...:rotfl2:

Me too...I hate to fly but I love to go on vacation! Such a dilema:confused3 . I have tried not to pass the fear on to my daughter and have (mostly) succeeded. She is a bit nervous but not too bad. She and her dad pretty much sleep the whole way after taking gravol (a necessary thing...they both get plane sick). I am an avid reader but I have trouble concentrating on a book on the plane so I buy some silly fan magazines to look at when we take off and land. The best thing I ever bought was the portable DVD player. :yay: Watching a movie helps me a lot!

I hear you about Florida Jakoky! It is a loooong way from BC! We did it in '04 and, again, everyone went to sleep and left me to while away the (many) hours!

Hi ZeusNike, yep florida was a long one...i see in your counter that you are going to puerto vallarta in a few months...i have a question, we are trying to decide if that is where we are going this year, and are thinking of booking in november...i have chosen puerto vallarta because i think i can live with the flight time, i think it is about 4 hours out of yvr...have u been before...we have never been to mexico, and i wanted to do DL again, but my oldest daughter(almost 16) and my husband really want mexico and my youngest 2 just want trip somewhere fun...thx
sharon, Dh, DD-15 , DS-13, DD-11

WDW-Dec 04-first disney experience for my DH, DD, DS, DD and first time at WDW for us all
DL-MAY 06-first time at DL for DH and kids , and my 9th(but the first 8 were all by the time i was about 13) so it was all new to me

Thanks, everyone.

Got my Xanax and will use that for sure. The fear of the Xanax not working may be the worst fear... :lmao:

I will use DH's Bose noise cancelling headphones and I have my IPOD all set up with sounds of Disneyland.

Can't go wrong! :thumbsup2

As an alternative to Xanax you can buy Dramamine over the counter. It is for motion sickness but a pleasant side effect is a slightly drowsy feeling. You might be able to even nap on the plane.

Test the Xanax one evening at home before you go. I worried about the same thing after my doc gave it to me, so I waited until about an hour before bed one night, took one...and surprise! It worked great! So then I knew I didn't have to worry about it working on the plane when I really needed it.
