Just back from WDW!! Gas under $3.00 everywhere--low was $2.73--high was $2.98. And in spite of all the hand-wringing, weeping, etc over gas prices--traffic the heaviest I've ever seen in all of our drives to WDW and back. And folks were FLYING!! Old, young, cars, trucks, busses, RV's ,SUV's Hybrids--80++ MPH was the norm. Hardly a soul slowing down a bit to save some of the $$ they complain about in gas prices. I had wanted to drive at 65 or so to save a bit of gas, but found it almost impossible--in the slow lanes even 70 was often too slow--people right on your bumper with crazed looks, infuriated that you were causing them to slow from their 80-90 MPH pace.
There were construction 'Zones" in NC, and Ga, and a lot of Florida. But not one bit of actual work taking place. And a positive note about DC. The flyover has certainly helped heading South, but now heading back north things are a bit better too. Used to be that you had to stay to the "right" when trying to remain on 95 to get over the Wilson Bridge. This was a problem because all the locals used to come from the "right" trying to merge with 395, 495 etc. Now, however, to remain on 95 you stay LEFT, with almost a mini flyover type situation that is much more easier to navigate. It's well marked (tho it took me a bit by suprise as I was always used to keeping to the right!!) and I think will help traffic in the area.
Should add that we took the by-pass around Richmond and around Jacksonville--no problems with either.
