We are driving down today and we are 70miles north of Richmond VA, headed south. Does anybody have an update on the flooding on RT 95 at the Virginia/NC border. I heard 2 hours ago that it was closed.

Ideas for alternate routes if it is?

Thanks!

I just looked online and it only shows congestion at the board - says it's a mile marker 10 in VA.

I-95S at MM 10.0
Description:
On I-95 South at mile marker 10 in the County of Greensville, motorists can expect major delays due to congestion. Traffic backups are approximately 10.0 miles.

That was from 2 PM and I assume if you stayed on 95, you are almost at the border by now, though.

Thank you! We are only at mile marker 58 because of other traffic issues here in Virginia. Where online did you find the information?

Sorry for the delayed response! I found it on this website, and I had picked Virginia. But you can choose for other states as well over on the right side of this link:

Hope your trip has improved! We were stuck on I95 for a long time in 2010 at Easter time due to problems from the tornado that had passed through NC (at least I think that's what had caused our problems) and it sucked!

The last couple of trips we took heading south instead of taking I95 we took route 301. It might add about 20 minutes to your trip because of the traffic lights but at least we weren't dealing with traffic and backups. That's what we did on Aug 18th heading to the outer banks of North Carolina. We didn't hit traffic until we hit the outer banks traffic, it was a 7 mile backup getting to the bridge from the mainland heading over to the outer banks. Returning home we decided to leave around 10 pm to avoid the traffic on I95. At that hour of night we had no problems on I95.

I95 in Virginia is always a mess these days unless you hit that area early in the AM or late in the evening.

The OP was already past that option when she was posting though. Even the first time I believe (can't see the previous post while typing on my iPad). That is a way that works for my family though because we live close to 301. It can also have nightmarish rush hour traffic though, really not much better than i95. We actually take a bypass even off 301 to avoid some of it.
