I’m ridiculous and love Club Villain! (Feb - March 2016 Trip Report) update 7/27

wow, everything sounds great! And glad to see anything you didn't like was more a preference thing than "this was just bad" thing

I too appreciate the creativity Disney showed though I think I am with you with those types of foods (desserts or otherwise) that are served in a fashion that you would expect to eat in one bite (e.g., on a spoon) but then are too big for one bite - just not fun as you either have to sort of eat it in multiple bites or look like a pig shoving it all into your mouth!

I've heard nothing but good things about this even especially with regards to meeting the characters and that having the set times really seemed to work. I am really glad to see Disney has learned from issues from past similar events and seems to have a hit a home run with this one. I am willing to spend $129 on something that is great but can't stand spending something like that only for it to be a disaster/let-down!

Club villain definitely looks like it's worth the money, and a great experience not to be missed!

Club Villain: the experience!

Okay! Drinks, check. Food, check. Now onto the villain, the show and the experience.

Let me start by saying, the villains were on point. They were amazing. We had filled our table with food and drinks and were ready for the villains!

Before the show began, we were allowed to take photos in the villain’s areas and sit in their seats. I was able to get photos with the Evil Queen and the Queen of Heart’s areas (both were on our side of the room):

Evil Queen:

And the magic mirror (yes, the magic mirror face would appear but it didn’t during my photo :-():

And the Queen of Hearts:

We didn’t have time to get to the other side of the room for the remaining two areas before the show started.

To give you an idea of the timeline thus far: they had let us in at 7:30PM and the host started the show at 7:45PM. In 15 minutes we had done a lot! Grabbed samples of all the food, drinks, and taken the two throne photos - in retrospect I have no idea how we did everything! There were short lines for the throne photos (maybe 7-8 people). Many folks were still filtering in from outside and getting their food; I’d imagine the line would be bigger if there weren’t so many other things fighting for guest attention. The cast members were very expeditious in the throne photos and when we were taking the Queen of Hearts photos they were closing off the line stating the show was starting shortly and the villains needed their seats.

The entire night was speckled with shows. There would be musical number, then a break for the villain greets (the times given on our cards), character breaks and time for food, then another number. The hosts and villains would come from any of the four corners of the room, but usually from the stage corners.

The show started with the host (or maybe emcee, I’m referring to him as the host) making his grand entrance and introducing himself. Let me tell you that the host was the most talented person in the show. His acting was great, his voice was beautiful and kept its strength despite all the dancing he was doing. AND THE BACK OF HIS JACKET! A Dia De Los Muertos like skull that was absolutely beautiful. He was the real star of the show.

Next was Doctor Facilier. He came and went throughout the night. For being the Villain host, it felt a little weird that he was the villain we saw least. I feel like he should have been meeting too? Anyway, I love this face character. His costume makes him look so perfectly lanky and I love it! He came out with two ladies who accompanied him and the host through various dance numbers throughout the night.

Since we were in a back corner, there was one point I turned around and he was just waltzing by, starting the next musical number. His hat makes him so tall it was a bit jarring! But in a fun way.

The hosts then introduced the villainous ladies of the evening. Because I was in the outer row of tables there are heads in all my photos, so I apologize in advance!

Maleficent was first; look at that scowl! Love it!

Next up was Cruella! I LOVE her backdrop on the video screen. The smoke even has black dots! The colors pop perfectly and it shows how much money Disney put into the technology in this room. Here is her enterance - this photo makes me giggle because she’s lookin’ like a walker..

And last, but not least, my favorite of the evening - The Queen of Hearts!

.

A quick disclaimer - the Queen of Hearts had her throne area right next to us so she became my favorite. I absolutely LOVE that she is a face character for this event. The Queen of Hearts is a naturally fabulous and expressive character - that giant head was such a disservice. When we were at the Sinister Soiree at MNSSHP in 2014 she was not a face character and I really didn’t care for her. I would add a bonus photo of 2014 Queen of Hearts meeting but that disaster of an event didn’t bother to provide photopass. Thankfully Disney learned and provided it here! Instead I’ll include a 2014 MNSSHP photo (I was dressed as the Queen of Hearts and hubby as the Mad Hatter). We’re with another character that would be wonderful as a face character but isn’t.

It was now about 8:00PM and we had 20 minutes until our meeting with the Evil Queen and the Queen of Hearts. We spent this time taking the food photos and drinking a lot (okay, well I was drinking a lot. Remember, I was determined to get my moneys worth in alcohol alone!). At 8:20 we got in line to meet our first Villains. Really, there was no line. We just had to wait for the people currently meeting them to finish up.

First we went to the Queen of Hearts and what a great character. I’d been watching her from our table and was super glad to finally interact with her - she was a lot of fun.

Next was the Evil Queen - again no real wait. She was a great character but so soft spoken. I didn’t really get an evil vibe from her but her dialog was spot on. Plus, I’m really nitpicking here since everything was so great the entire night.

YcLPBW9R1dXw_hphWh_QoC3Wgl6hiDbJXrV_JjvSwJnBbm8J2vIxhtQomJsgNmbE8LkM-ZFcmaw7k4SWifFs3k0D3A5X5JMB97OHUr5_vKLN0XtwX9XkqyZIRWBOOdSS5eUGbmU7

After we finished it was 8:23PM. I even checked the timestamps on my camera and the photopass pictures and we literally made it through both villains in 3 minutes. Neither my husband nor I are good at meeting characters. The conversation never flows well so it’s really our own fault and I have no complaints, just floored that it was only 3 minutes! Crazy!

So it’s now about 8:25 and our next meeting is at 9:25. I’m going to break here and continue in my next update.

Haricots Verts! LOL the only way I knew what they were when I saw them on the menu is because DH and I watch "Chopped" regularly!
We thought the food was really good and both of us wished we'd eaten more. But like you said, there was so much to do/see we got carried away "in the moment" and didn't go back to get as much food as we wanted - although DH did manage to have 4 bowls of the polenta and shrimp! I certainly had enough desserts though :rolleyes1 and I agree the Queen of Hearts were my favorite.

You got great pics of the characters and I love the ones of you in their chairs! I too wish Dr. Facilier did a regular M&G, but when we went he stopped periodically and took pictures with random people (including me!).

How awesome was it to have QoH as a face character??!!

That polenta! I could live off that stuff!

LOVED QoH as a face character. She was amazing. Usually I don't like when Disney strays from the traditional characters, but this adds dimension.

Oh! And Dr. Facilier - he comes out from random corners. I remember at one point I turned around and he was marching out right behind me. Scared the crap out of me - he is not a short man!

Club Villain: the experience part 2!

Last I left off, it was 8:25 PM and we had an hour until we met the other two villains - Maleficent and Cruella. During this hour is when I really took all the food photos from my previous posts. We ate and ate and drank and drank. Between bites I was snapping photos and we were enjoying the show. At this point I was about 7 drinks in. Each drink came with a paper straw so I took to using them to count. Mind you, the drinks had to be somewhat watered down based on my usual limit vs how much I drank that night. With normal alcohol levels in each drink, I would have been done after 4-5 for the entire evening.

A few minutes before 9:25 we headed over to meet Maleficent. I mentioned this in a comment, but it bares repeating, I usually dislike when Disney strays from the traditional characters. This Maleficent was, in my opinion, a hybrid between traditional and Angelina Jolie’s version. In this case, I loved her. She, like the Evil Queen, was a bit soft spoken, but other than that her character was right on spot.

Look at those eyes! Hubby didn’t get the message to be serious in this photo. I was in love with this throne. Disney did so much work in the details here, which is why I was so surprised they only had the event going a few months. I’m so excited they announced new dates last week and I’ve already booked our next Club Villain event for this September!

It’s at this point that the DJ played one of the only ‘group dances’ of the night - Watch Me (you know, the watch me whip, watch me nay nay song). Maleficent noted that everyone was doing the same thing on the dance floor and my husband jumped in with “Yea! The DJ must have cast a spell on everyone!” The man set me up for the perfect opportunity to teach a Disney Villain how to cast a spell by whipping and nay naying, and I didn’t pick up on it. Blame it on one too many drinks, but I missed the setup. Anywho - she noted that the power of the DJ’s magic couldn’t touch her own and sent us on our way.

Cruella was our final villain to meet and we didn’t even need to wait for the group in front of us to finish up. That woman was eccentric. She bounced all over her area and most of our Photopass pictures ended up blurry, but we got a few keepers:

You can see Cruella’s attitude in the photos. SO dramatic. And if you look, her spotlights were paw prints! She was doing something different every time we looked over throughout the night.

We finished with Cruella at 9:30PM according to the photo timestamps. So about 5 minutes between the two. Overall, I loved all the characters this evening. Each of them was on point and at the top of their game - it reminds me how amazing Disney can be when they put their mind to it!

Our 9:25 meet time was among the later meet and greet and by this time a few people had filtered out, including our table mates. For $130pp we were sticking it out the entire night, plus we were having an amazing time. We wandered back to our seats where the Queen of Hearts was alone with her handlers. A few other guests had filtered by and take a second round of photos with her, so we did the same.

That face! This peasant had to take another photo with her! I am so beneath her royal highness!

I’m going to pause here and leave my final Club Villain update for all the random photos I took throughout the evening!

Club Villain - the last part!

It’s now 9:40 PM and they’re kicking us out in 20 minutes. The villains completed the final show and began to kick us out of their club.

The entire night was wonderful. It was a little over 2 hours from beginning to end and we enjoyed every minute. I think Disney could really improve the event by making the later event for adults only - now I totally understand why they don’t, based on the venue and whatnot, but they kept trying to get everyone on the dance floor. It’s hard to get adults on the dance floor with a bunch of toddlers, even with a decent amount of alcohol, even at 10 PM. Now that they’ve moved the later show from 7:45PM to 8:30PM, it makes even more sense, but alas, we are in Disney and children are part of the package!

The only times adults were on the dance floor was during the whip and nae nae (which I missed because it was during our villain meet) and when they taught us all a special dance for the night. Thankfully there are no photos of the later because my husband was videoing me doing the dance - and videos are easy to delete! I wish they would have played more group dance songs. But again, we had a wonderful time. I’m really nitpicking here.

To round out the Club Villain experience, I present my favorite photos I took throughout the night:
