Hypothetical Question: If I caught COVID a few days before trip AND purchased the $99 Insurance Coverage offer, what would happen?

Unfortunately for me, I am a front line worker and am exposed daily to strangers, half of which don't really seem to care about COVID. This is my first trip since Omicron came into play and the spread among my workplace is high. I'm getting a bit nervous about catching it and it throwing a wrench into my plans. And this got me thinking of the hypothetical in the title.

I understand DVC's cancellation/modification policy less 2-30 days prior to check in will go into a holding account to be used in same UY but, to add to this hypothetical, what if said trip finishes out your UY where your points would essentially expire as soon as you put it in a holding account?

With the loss of points, will DVC's offered travel insurance help recover some of the cost since illness was a factor?

Sorry, I hope I was articulate in explaining the hypothetical.
 
This actually happened to me in December. I caught and tested positive for Covid 4 days before I was supposed to leave for a DVC stay. I called Member Services, and the Cast Member couldn't have been nicer. The trip was booked on borrowed points and they returned them to their original use year. I offered to submit a copy of my positive PCR test, but the CM said not to worry about it, and just to focus on feeling better. She thanked me for staying home and even reminded me to drink plenty of fluids. She was super sweet. I hope you stay healthy, but if the worst should happen, your first call should be to MS to see if there's anything they can do. Good luck!
 
Oh ok I am glad they worked with you on that and also glad that you've recovered! Definitely makes me feel a bit less nervous knowing that DVC is willing to work with those who test positive shortly before a trip. Thank you
 
You probably should contact the insurance provider with this question. DVC can do a few things to help like removing the holding or possibly even returning borrowed points but when you are at the end of your UY there will be little they can do. If they points were current year points then they might, and I emphasize might, make a banking exception. IF they are banked points there wouldn't be anything they could do.
 

We will be taking this chance in February. We had bought Daytona 500 tickets several months ago and since decided to try to cancel our trip. Our insurance on the tickets would not cover anything related to Covid. Not sure how the DVC insurance is though. With all that said, we have decided to go and are just praying that we have no issues. I get terrible travel anxiety anyway (due to several incidents in the past), and this definitely adds to it. Our trip is using 6 banked points and 34 current points. Our UY is June. If we have to cancel, we will call MS first. I know we will lose the 6 banked points no matter what miracle they can do with the 34, if any. But we are going into this with a Plan B and C. I have friends who are interested in using the reservation if we can't go, or if time allows, we will stalk the website to see if anything opens up either at WDW or HHI that would allow us to use the points before May 31.
