Assume: You are a Riviera Resort Blue Card Owner, but you want to add on a bunch of points at OKW just so you can book Grand Villas there every other year when you want. You have to choose between a 300 point 2057 resale contract at 100/pt or buying the points direct at twice that price. Are you going to pay that price for the flexibility of using some of the points at Riviera as well?

Just wanted to see some people's thoughts. I think this is a good contrast. You pretty much need OKW to get the grand villas when you want, and the price difference between direct and resale is pretty huge. Explain why you picked.

Edit: Picked OKW(e) so it is the same product minus the restriction. Also, since the hypothetical buyer is already blue card, there is no lure of membership perks.

FYI - I picked resale for this hypothetical because the cost savings make it really clear cut to me.

If I buying the points to stay at the OkW grand villas I would buy resale. I would bank and borrow the Riviera points to stay at Riviera and use the OkW at OkW. If we decided to swap out at 7 months we use the OkW points.
I don't see any benefits in spending the extra money on direct in this case.

A question. Can you buy OKW-e (through 2057) direct from Disney?
Yes, that's all that they will sell you. They only sell it as an extended contract.

That is why I specified resale OKW extended, so you are getting the same product either way, except the points restriction.

Okay, one person said direct so far, but no comment. I wonder if that was a mistake.

Didn't know a comment was needed. Just off of personal preference, we only buy direct points. When the rules of the game can be changed anytime Disney wants, it seems to me direct is just a safer option.

It these are exclusively for OKW, then I’d say just go resale because it doesn’t matter if you can combine them and as someone else mentioned, you could also add on more direct at RIV to supplement those points for stays there and future resorts.

We won’t do resale any longer but that because we want every point to be good at RIV and all future resorts in case something comes along we might want to add to our list of places..which currently are RIV and VGF.

I voted resale - if you find you need some extra RIV points in addition to OKW GV - then I would take some of the $$ saved by OKW resale and buy a small RIV contract (is 50 points the smallest contract?) direct as an add-on.

Very easy call. If you occasionally need (which is a strong word) more Riviera points then buy them. I’m not spending $30K to make my life very slightly easier once in a while.

Thank you!

I went with resale but that is because no one in my family liked Rivera when we stayed there last summer. That being said if it was VGF, which we love versus Rivera my answer may have been different. Being blocked from Rivera is not a big deal to us.

I went with resale since it seems these are for OKW GV use only. I do have OKW direct and soon to be (waiting to close still) OKW 2042 resale. But the OKW resale is more to get us through our kids being young and then teens while the direct points are more for us and to combine with RIV points. If we wanted those OKW direct points only for OKW, we would have gone resale.

Is the market for okwe down to 100 resale? I’m not saying that’s unreasonable but from the lurking I’ve done it seems a bit higher than that. I had priced okw direct with taking advantage of the magic beginnings promo and it seemed like you could get it down to the 160s. Assuming okwe is 110 resale it’s still not in the wow I must go direct bucket which I say is in the 20 to 30 dollar delta range. I’d still vote direct just to avoid the hassle of the future. I’m about 55% direct and it works fine for us but I’d love to have the flexibility to just pool all the points together and stay anywhere if I happen to like a new restricted resort. So for me…. I’d consider paying the extra 40 to 50. I would not pay double.

I see a smaller contract listed for 104/pt, so I'm assuming someone could reasonably swing a deal for a big 300 point contract.

You're right, you could probably get the direct price down lower. So if it's in the 160s, that's around $50,000 for direct and $30,000 for the resale. Would you buy it then? (considering the reason you're getting the contract is to use at OKW)
