Hyper cat-what to do?

We have two 1 year old cats. The male cat is making me lose my mind. At night he is extremely hyper. He's either tearing through the apartment knocking things over and howling, or he's beating the snot out of his sister. Last night I locked him in the bathroom but I don't want to keep doing that. Any ideas to get him to calm down? He is fixed.

My female was like that too. She is a bit older (just under 2) and is finally starting to settle down. I did take her to the vet though during her hyper stage to make sure nothing was wrong. He said it was a phase.
I hope your kitty settles down!

Both of my cats have a very active period in the morning and again at night. I just smile and figure it doesn't last long and then they go to sleep. I figure that is when they get their exercise.

Maybe try to keep the cat a little more active during the day so that he'll sleep more at night? But I do agree that it's a phase. I can remember my cat driving me insane at night when he was younger.

It's good to know it will pass. Any idea how long these phases last?

Do you mean they are really fighting or are play fighting?

Make sure there are a variety or toys to play with. One of our cats likes a particular ball with a bell and when it's not under furnitur  , he will carry it around and bat it all over the place (back under the furniture :teeth: ). Some of our cats like catnip. They all like feather toys, but of course that takes a person. They have a bunch of different toys and they do have their favorites and it helps to keep them out of trouble. The kitty in my signature likes to get dry dog food and play with it. We end up with dog food all over the house and I'm surprised we didn't have an ant problem this spring. That cat has been more trouble than any other kitten we've ever had and one time I did start a thread about her. She is getting a little better now at 1yo, but it was an expensive first year.

He tackles her and bites her. I don't think it's really hard, she's a bit of a wimp. But I don't enjoy hearing that at 2:00am. I've bought him so many toys. When I move the couch I find about a dozen or so that he's swatted under there. I think I just need to find something else that will keep his attention for awhile. Maybe some sort of kitty jungle-gym.

So they're playing, which is normal, but loud! :teeth:

Maybe buy something that he can bat around that's mounted or hangs from a doorknob.

Yep, get him a nice cat condo. Although the "hyper kitty" will last for awhile.

We had 2 brothers growing up and our Christmas tree was on the floor every morning for quite a few years.:lmao:
Hunks of fur all over the house and the little darlings sleeping peacefully, like angels, every morning.

One of my boys used to be like that when he was younger. I started playing with him before bed so that he was tired and had it all out of his system. It worked pretty well.
