Hydrogen Fuelled Cars

Toyota are offering them for sale over here and are making a big thing of it.

But where do you refuel a hydrogen fuel cel car? They seem like a great solution, but I fear they may never take off thanks to the infrastructure. Even pure electric cars are finding their feet around here - topup points are all over the place including some of the ultra-fast charging points. Within a square mile of my house there must be 50 charge points? And that's neglecting at home charge points, which are heavily subsidised (we had one offered for free when we had a plug-in hybrid car).

Yes, refueling is a HUGE issue right now with Hydrogen cars. A friend has a Toyota Mirai and loves the car, but fueling is a challenge.
ALL the fueling locations in our county have closed. And even when they were open, they often were out of service. Apparently they freeze up and take some time to defrost before they can resume refueling.
The Mirai is about a $50,000 car but with rebates they cost about $15,000.
Electric charging stations are a joke here in California. Popping up in just about every shopping center parking lot. One opened at the store a half mile from my house, and the folks at the grocery store say they have yet to see a single car use them.
They are all being paid for by Volkswagen, as a settlement totaling nearly $1 billion to the state of California for designing cars that had software in them, the set the engines to detect when they were being tested for emissions, then turning those pollution control systems off when you actually were driving the car.
Goes back more than a decade when it pretty much became impossible to sell diesel powered cars in California because many engineers said it was impossible to get them to meet California smog rules. VW stopped selling diesel cars, but after a year or so found a way to get them to meet the standards so they resumed selling them. Well, like I said, they found a way to get them to meet standards ONLY when they were being tested. They did not meet standards when being driven.

The Volkswagen diesel gate settlement created and funded Electrify America and the construction of their DCFC network.

Any other DCFC or Level 2 station was funded with other investment money.
