Hyatt House or Candy Cane Inn?

We will be visiting DL for the first time at the end of July and are second-guessing our hotel options. There will be 4 of us: me, my spouse, and our 2 kids (9 and 11 y/o). We need at least 2 beds but each kid having their own bed would be awesome. We think we've narrowed it down to either the Hyatt House or Candy Cane Inn. Walkability is our primary consideration with room size probably second on the list as the kids often like to spend some time decompressing at the hotel (my youngest has autism and can get overwhelmed sometimes). Which of these would you recommend? Or is there somewhere else I should be looking at instead? Thank you!!

I haven't stayed at the Hyatt so I'll let others compare it to the CCI in terms of lodging quality. As for walking distance, that extra few hundred feet to the Hyatt may seem like a lot to you at the end of the day. 😁 Okay, probably not a big deal. But remember that if any of your family members do ever balk at the walk, the CCI has that free shuttle, so that could be a factor in your decision.

I agree with others to at least consider other options slightly closer. Both your hotels are nice, but I'd choose CCI between the two.

Having to walk across Katella is not pleasant and the wait for the light can be long.

I've stayed at both. The premium room at Candy Cane Inn was small for our family of 4, but the shuttle is nice. It was about a 10/15 minute walk when we didn't take the shuttle. We used the shuttle most of the time.

The walk to the Hyatt feels pretty long but they have some nice 2 room suites. It took us 25 minutes one day when my youngest was super tired. Generally more like 15/20, though.

I'd consider something closer for walkability. I like Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn. They have 2 room suites which are roomy with 3 beds, or you could get connecting rooms. Hot breakfast, too. Lots of people like Best Western Park Place Inn or Park Vue, too. (All three of those hotels are about a 2 minute walk to the Harbor blvd Disneyland entrance.)

Have you looked at any of the resort hotels? They're having a summer sale right now.

I would also add Home2Suites to the list. It has bigger rooms and an included breakfast. Walk isn’t terrible either. It does only have valet parking though, no self parking.

Haven't stayed at the Hyatt so I can't compare apples to apples but CCI rooms will be on the small side for 4 people. Not sure how noise levels are at the Hyatt but CCI is fairly well-insulated for being a motel.

CCI wins hands down for walkability. You could either take the shuttle or walk to the Esplanade without having to cross Katella or any busy intersection.

My husband and sons stayed at the Hyatt and I remember them saying it was a bit noisy. And they could hear people in the room next door. Our experience at CCI was super quiet and we were really impressed by that because it’s a motel and usually motels tend to be a bit louder.

I would for sure get a premium room at CCI if you decided to stay there. We stayed there last year in a premium room with our 2 teens. The extra space was nice and we didn’t feel so cramped compared to a standard room. We also absolutely loved the breakfast delivery. It was a game changer! It was delivered while my husband and I got ready. So it enticed our sleepy teens to wake up and eat while we got ready. And then my husband and I ate while the teens got ready. Saved us some time and the food is yummy. We loved it.

Stayed at Hyatt House when CCI was still closed after COVID. Had a kitchenette suite which was very nice and quite large with separate studio area with couch and dinette area. At the time it was quite reasonable but now has gone up where it’s not affordable for me. Also, even though it’s not that much farther than CCI, the walk at night SEEMS LONGER so we’d usually just Uber.

That said, a standard room at CCI is tight with two people…I could not imagine it with four. But you can’t beat the shuttle…saves a lot of wear and tear and Jamesthe driver in the morning is a sweetie!
