Husband lost job, had to cancel,new job...we are going!

HI! Just wanted to share this because I am so thrilled. For Christmas I had counted on wrapping a gift of mouse ears and telling my children, 4 and 6....Santa is sending us to WDW! I even set up Mickey to call them on Christmas day. Well, 2 weeks before, my husband was layed off....the trip was to be cancelled, but I held out hope until the last minute...thank goodness I picked up the phone when Mickey called on Christmas morning......well, two weeks ago...he got a job! He is unable to go, however, he told me I can take the kids. I found the buy 4 get 3 free deal, and scraped enough money together to take not only us, but my sister and her 8 year old who, could never ever afford this trip. I was able to get us there (without DH) with a little changing of plans. But I am so happy and feel so very lucky. I am still sca red of having these plans given the economy, but you only live once and to give my sister this opportunity and to be able to see the thrill on the children's faces when we see Cinderella's castle is just beyond what words can say right now. I feel so very lucky. June in WDW, at POR!!!

First off, of course it's unfortunate that your DH can't join you for this trip, but it's better to have a job than a vacation, right?

You are also very kind and generous to bring your sister and her kid as well.

I an so glad you and your sister are able to share this wonderful vacation. I have been lucky enough to have taken a few vacations with my sister and her kids and the memories that the cousins have made are irreplaceable! Have a wonderful time! Congratulations to hubby and his new job, I wish him an easy transition! Next time, the trip will include him as well. By the way, you will love POR, there's lots for the kids to enjoy!

First congratulations on your husband finding a new job so quickly!

I have a similar story...

Last May I used my Delta skymiles to book 4 r/t tickets to Florida for April 2009 School Vacation. Since I am the Disney nut in the family, I secretly started planning in my head that, instead of just visiting grandma and grandpa in Florida for Easter, we would go to WDW for a few nights. Well in September I was layed off from the company where I worked for 23 years. Since the airline tickets were "free" we would still go to Florida but not spend money on going to WDW. Well 4 1/2 months later I landed a better job that pays significantly more than I was making at my old company. Then last week my wife got a bonus at her job! So WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!
We are so incredibly blessed! So I know what I will be celebrating this year at Disney World.

YAY! What a great story! I hate hearing of all the people losing their jobs so how wonderful that your DH found another so quickly! I'm sure you'll miss him on your trip but how generous of him to tell you to go without him and for you to take your DS and DN!! I hope you have a magical time!!

I have a somewhat similar story. A couple of weeks ago, I found out I was being laid off 2 days before the prebooked family trip to Disney. To keep my severance, I had to stay back to finish the job. In the end my wife took my mother in law and three kids, DD6, DD3, and DS2 without me. Although I wish I could have been there too, I am so happy that my kids were not let down and have enjoyed hearing their stories. A week home now and they still can't stop talking about it. In that respect, the trip was well worth it.
