Hurry Up, You Brats, or I'm Telling Mickey Mouse! An August 2013 TR THE END 1/18

I need that Belle pin and there is an ornament too?? OOh la la!! I want one!

I can't WAIT to shaw Rachel the New Orleans pics, they look FABULOUS!!! Sounds as if it was a blast!

I've never been to New Orleans but since I love NO Square at DL, I'd definitely be interested in touring. (Funny how so many things in my life have a Disney frame of reference!) Those beignets are looking good. It looks like they need to serve a bib with those with all that powdered sugar. You ate alligator?? :scared1: You are brave. Thanks for sharing that update.

That Beauty & The Beast pin is very cool - I've not seen that one.

Showing your guns to Mr. Incredible, that is hilarious. Looks like a great exchange.

Very nice photos of the B&tB stage show. :thumbsup2

BTW: I love the red velvet cupcakes from Starring Rolls. They can be a meal replacement as far as I'm concerned. :)

awesome New Orleans pics.... Alligator sounds great to try. I am adventurous when it comes to food. Danielle(IHeartDDuck) and I talk about going on the Amazing Race all the time... She would do all the high stuff and I will eat all the weird food :rotfl2::rotfl2:

MMM that Beignet looks so yummy.... I love the ones they have at PO French Quarter. MMM good.

your pics of Bell and the Beast are beautiful... It's so wonderful that Disney has interpreters for all the shows.... I had no idea they did that Thanks so much Courtney for that info. I think it's fantastic for the hearing impaired to be able to enjoy WDW shows too.pixiedust:pixiedust:

So glad you had such a great visit to New Orleans. Whether anyone agrees or not, that quote on the sign sure is funny!

Haha, you got dissed by Mr. Incredible!! Too cute. You look like you're having so much fun with it, and that's really the whole point, right? Oh and I don't know why Frozone finds it so funny. He's got quite the pipe cleaners going on there.

Beautiful pictures of NO. Sounds like you had an amazing time. I don't know if I would be able to eat Alligator. Maybe if they just told me it was chicken and then told me the truth after I ate it. ;)

I like the picture of you and your "friends"

Can you imagine owning a beautiful home like that in NO but never living in it??!! Ahhh to be rich!!

I love that pin. It's beautiful.

That is great that they have interpreters at all the shows. Just another way Disney does everything right.

Looks like a really fun M&G with Frozone and Mr Incredible.

I know! It's so beautiful! I love the plate details :lovestruc

Thank you!! It was such a wonderful time, I'm glad I got to go!

I love New Orleans Square in DL too! I dream about Mickey-shaped beignets on a semi-regular basis.

I hadn't seen it before either, so I'm very glad I found it!

Meeting Mr. Incredible was so fun! I hadn't met him in a few years so it was definitely a good time.

Thanks! My mom took those ones, so I can't take the credit.

And I am in total agreement! Such a good cupcake.

I am not very adventurous when it comes to food. I only tried it because when it came out it looked and smelled like popcorn chicken :lmao: I would absolutely watch you and Dani on the Amazing Race!

I have had the ones at FQ too, and now that I've tried one from New Orleans I can say they're pretty authentic :thumbsup2

Aw shucks, thanks!! Disney definitely does a lot to help the hearing impaired/deaf community. One of the many reasons why it's my favorite place!

Thanks Rob! It was hilarious!

It was definitely one of our better character meets, I couldn't stop laughing! And I KNOW! He could use an arm workout too!

Thank you so much! Yeah, that was kind of how I went about it. I wasn't going to try it, but when it came out it looked like popcorn chicken so I just went for it.

They were hilarious. Halloween is the second-craziest time in NOLA, after Mardi Gras of course!

That was exactly my thought process about Johnny Depp's house...let me stay there for a night! I can take it off your hands, Johnny!

Disney is so accommodating and helpful to us when it comes to interpreters/captioning devices. Whenever people ask why we keep going back, I tell them that (as one of many reasons in a usually hour-long tirade :lmao:)

It was so fun!

Love the New Orleans pics - they take me back to my youth and Mardi Gras! And you got beignets at the same place as me!

That Belle pin is one of my favorites ever. It is so so pretty.

I like the Sorcerer's Hat too. I wish there wasn't a stage in front of it for the last umpteen years.

Your sister is either going to wear out her Magic Band or lose it in the next 25 days.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to New Orleans. We went ther BC (before children) and loved it. Though we had so much to eat and drink after a week our bodies were all "no mas!"

Gah beignets. I just drooled all over myself.

New Orleans is on my list of places to visit, so thanks for posting pictures!

I'm definitely encouraging my Mom to pin trade on our upcoming trip. As she's mentioned plenty of times, she loves pins, and I want her to get in on the action!

Isn't it a little hot to be eating a churro? Dude, it's never too hot to eat a churro.

Glad you had a great time in NOLA! I miss living there so much. There is really nowhere else like it! The beignets are my weakness. I could eat a thousand of them.

The house owned by Johnny Depp... I'm think that must be the LaLaurie house? Pretty cool, especially since it's the center of the new season of American Horror Story. :thumbsup2 I knew Nicolas Cage used to own it, but didn't realize about Johnny!

On to the update...

I have a confession...I too love the hat! :duck: I think it's cute, and I guess I only visited once without it being there so I don't have that emotional attachment to seeing Great Movie Ride down the road when you walk into the park. I also liked the hand and wand over Spaceship Earth, but I better shut up before the diehards show up with their pitchforks. :lmao:

Sorry, gotta say I laughed at that pic of Frozone laughing at your arm muscles. :rotfl2: Classic!

I'm glad you liked them! Cafe du Monde owns my heart.

I love it so so so much!

Yeah, I could do without the stage, but the hat itself is adorbs.

Hahaha! That is too funny. I'm excited to try mine on.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to New Orleans. We went ther BC (before children) and loved it. Though we had so much to eat and drink after a week our bodies were all "no mas!"

Ugh, I felt the exact same way. I ate SO much food but it was all so delicious!

Gah beignets. I just drooled all over myself.

Beignets have the same effect on me.

If you get the chance to go, I would definitely recommend it. It's so much fun!

She totally should! We may or may not buy pin lots from eBay in order to trade :ssst: but pin trading is so much fun and I think she'd get really into it.

It is ALWAYS an appropriate time for a churro, let's be real.

Sorry, gotta say I laughed at that pic of Frozone laughing at your arm muscles. :rotfl2: Classic!

NOLA was so fabulous! I only got beignets twice over our three days there, but believe me I wish I had eaten more!

Yes, everyone was talking about American Horror Story! I don't watch it but it's cool that people are filming in New Orleans.

Okay, I am so glad you mentioned the hand and wand over Spaceship Earth because I kind of loved it too! I dunno, it's one of my distinct Disney childhood memories seeing the "2000" over Spaceship Earth and so I liked it a lot. The only makeover I ever felt iffy about was the cake castle...but that was only in retrospect. I was young at the time and loved it, haha.

I was laughing a lot too! It was a hilarious character meet, for sure.

We’re Up All Night to Get BOG FP+ A Thanksbirthmas (copyright pending) PTR

I wasn’t supposed to go to Disney World at all in the year 2013. We were going to go to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas for our family trip in August. Well, then my dad (of all of us, haha) freaked out because he realized we wouldn’t be going to Disney, so we booked the August trip instead. We knew we’d be going in August 2013 and July 2014, so we splurged for the APs. My dad and I also had a father-daughter trip in January 2013, partially to see New Fantasyland, and partially because Kylie and Mom had a mother-daughter Christmas trip in 2012 and we were jealous.

I was feeling so lucky to have gone twice in a year, and figured I couldn’t ask for more. Well, you know. People plan, God laughs. And so does the Walt Disney Company. They laugh all the way to the bank with my churro money.

Now this part is going to get a little long and sad, but it’s basically how this trip came to be. I need to introduce you all to one of the most important people in my life:

10680488266_2e7a9018b7_z.jpg

The woman on the far right rockin’ the fanny pack is my Grammy. I’m the tiny one. My uncle has the sweet handlebar moustache, and the other two you may recognize as younger versions of my parents.

My Grammy was one of my favorite people in the entire world. She used to babysit me two days a week when my mom would work, and she came to Disney with us when she could still fly. Her favorites were It’s a Small World and the Skyway (I miss that so much). Once we ate at Liberty Tree Tavern and Pluto attacked her with kisses. Another time PUSH the trash can yelled at her for speeding on her ECV. My Grammy took care of me when I was sick, loved me unconditionally, and truly believed I could do anything, which is why I believe all my dreams can come true.

My Grammy passed away on December 11, 2012. She was sick, but it was still very unexpected and shocking. I miss her every day, but for the most part I am just trying to make her proud by being my upbeat, hardworking self. That being said, the holidays have been really tough since she passed. Christmas was the worst because it was only a few weeks later, but even on the Fourth of July I felt awful.

I knew Thanksgiving this year would be tough, because we always spent the whole day together, and Thanksgiving 2012 was actually the last day I saw her. So this year, I had been hinting at my mom that maybe we could go away for Thanksgiving, just to try something new. I had actually looked at Hilton Head and Vero Beach.

Then, one night in June, I casually mentioned it again. Now, many mothers would say, “Haven’t you been on vacation enough this year?” But I have the best mom, who said, “Well, we have the APs, might as well look at flights to Disney.”

10680613286_76e59fecb3_n.jpg

!!!! At this point I started rolling around the floor and yelling at my parents for enabling my Disney addiction. “WE ARE A FAMILY OF ENABLERS.”

At first, we were looking to fly out Tuesday, right after my classes end. But as you may know, Thanksgiving is a crazy expensive time to fly. That wasn’t really in our budget.

BUT THEN my mom had the idea to look at flights on Thanksgiving Day! Those flights were actually quite cheap, as most people want to spend all of Thanksgiving with their family. But we were totally fine with spending part of it on a plane!!

So, we are flying down on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, and returning on Monday, December 2.

Since I had already managed to get my parents on board with my vacation idea, I decided to push my luck a little and ask to stay at a resort I have dreamed about for some time…

WE ARE STAYING AT PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE IN A ROYAL GUEST ROOM!!!

I stayed at POR five years ago with a friend and I thought it was beautiful. Plus I am princess crazy and Tiana is one of my faves, so it is perfect.

Pictures from my last visit there:

10680695583_9fcf2be6a7.jpg

So it’s a Thanksgiving trip. And as we know, Disney will be all decked out for Christmas. But it’s also a birthday trip! My dad’s birthday is December 3, so we’re celebrating it over the trip. And since that would make me the only one who didn’t get to celebrate a birthday in Disney while we had our APs, we're going to celebrate my birthday (December 30) a month early.

We also have MAGIC BANDS! I’m excited because mine is pink. The Queen is my mom, Snow is Kylie, and Keith is my dad.

10680856393_e8477669e2_z.jpg

Here’s our agenda for our trip:

Thursday: We will fly to MCO, hop on the Magical Express, and check in at POR! Then, for our Thanksgiving dinner, we are going to my favorite restaurant, ‘50s Prime Time Café! We had initially booked Mickey’s Backyard Barbecue, but our flight doesn’t land till 3 and we would have to be at the barbecue at 6. Between Magical Express, checking in, and getting to Fort Wilderness from POR, we were already cutting it a little close, and if our flight were delayed or something we would be out a lot of money since you have to pre-pay. So when a later reservation opened up for ‘50s we snatched it up! They will be having a special turkey meal in addition to the regular menu.

FP+:
MuppetVision 3D 3:00-4:00…we’re definitely not making it for this one, but we had to pick three and this was one of the options.
Toy Story Mania 4:00-5:00…doubtful we’ll make it in time, but if we do, YAY.
Fantasmic! 5:55-6:15

Friday: We are going to DHS for the day! I’m beyond excited to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. My mom said that was worth the cost of their entire Christmas trip, and I believe it.

FP+:
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster 12:10-1:10
Toy Story Mania 3:00-4:00
MuppetVision 3D 4:00-5:00

Saturday: We are going to Epcot and we have two ADRs! We are eating lunch at our new favorite, Via Napoli. Then, for dinner we are going to the Garden Grill for our Candlelight Processional Package! I have never been there before, but Pluto’s my boy so I’m excited. Our Candlelight Processional narrator is Gary Sinise. I primarily know him as the Mission: Space guy, but my mom loves him and I’m excited to see it. I was really hoping for Neil Patrick Harris, as he’s my favorite actor, but if the worst part of my vacation is not seeing NPH then I am in pretty good shape!

FP+ (We picked these before they implemented the tier system):
Soarin’ 9:00-10:00
Test Track 10:00-11:00
Spaceship Earth 2:30-3:30

Sunday: We are finally off to Magic Kingdom! We plan on doing Be Our Guest for lunch and have been checking multiple times a day for a Fastpass+. Then, we will be attending MICKEY’S VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS PARTY! I have been planning EXTENSIVELY for this. We should have an interpreter for Celebrate the Season and Once Upon A Christmastime. I also want to see Holiday Wishes, and hopefully the Castle Lighting. As far as characters, my biggest priority is FLYNN RIDER because I love him. I also really, really want to meet Abu! Other characters I hope to meet are Christmas Mickey, Pooh & the gang, and maybe Santa Duffy!

FP+:
Splash Mountain 10:00-11:00
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 11:00-12:00
Space Mountain 4:00-5:00

Monday: We fly home bright and early.

I’m basically the luckiest girl alive. I haven’t told a ton of people here at school that I’m going, just because sometimes I feel guilty that I get to go so much. But you all understand. I know my Grammy would love for us to be there, so I feel good about it. I’m just so excited to have Thanksgiving at Disney and get to see all the Christmas decorations and shows!

Thanks for reading along with this looooong post, and I hope you all will stay on board with this and my THANKSBIRTHMAS TR!

Nice title, reference to my (not) favorite song.

Look at you in the little Pocahontas outfit! I think it even had beaded fringe along the shorts. That might have been the day you met John Smith. And the year we went to MVMCP when you were sick. Always a trooper, getting sick on the bus but rallying and going to the party. You must have been 4?

You all caught me in a moment of weakness suggesting a Thanksgiving trip. I think I am getting soft in my old age. I guess I should consider myself lucky you only asked for POR Princess room and not the Poly! I am the uber-planner and to book a trip only 5 months out over a holiday is unheard of for me. But at least we got a few good ADRs. But it's a short trip so not much time for eating! Churros on the run!

I am SO excited to see the Osborne lights again. You are not going to believe it when you are standing there and they flip that switch. It is overwhelming.

I am excited for Gary Sinise and the CP too. CP is so beautiful. NPH has a lot of nerve to come the day after you leave!

Next up is finding Christmas shirts to wear or make! Don't forget to mark off your countdown calendar every day!

Awwww Courtney thanks for sharing that touching back story. I'm sure your Grammy would be glad that you are spending this Holiday at one of the happiest places that you could be. That adorable photo of you as a little tyke is precious. That was hilarious that PUSH yelled at your grandma for speeding on her ECV.

I'm glad that you were able to get one of your favorite ADRs for Thanksgiving dinner. Hopefully no one tells you to hurry up you brats or they're telling Mickey!

Whoa, wait, there are special characters at the MVMCP?? Obviously I have done no research for that.

I know you'll enjoy your Thanksbirthmas!

BTW: We traveled on Christmas Day before as a family for the same exact reason. It was much cheaper to fly out on the major holiday and there were plenty of available seats. It was one of our favorite memories.

What a wonderful reason to go to Disney and I am sure that your grandma would love to know you are there. :goodvibes

Sounds like it is going to be an amazing trip with a lot of things that you will be able to see for the first time. Hope you get to meet all the characters on your wish list. pixiedust:

Hope you have a wonderful time at your Thanksbirthmas!!! :)

Aww Courtney that was a beautiful remembrance of your Grammy. Obviously given the journal you found earlier, she was a big Disney fan, so I have no doubt she'll be delighted that you are all spending Thanksgiving in the Most Magical Place on Earth. I too remember trips with mine back in the day and they are indeed wonderful memories.

Yay for Birthday celebrations at Disney!

Your plans look great. How cool to have a Thanksgiving dinner at Prime Time. That should be even more fun than normal!

If you've never seen the Osborne lights before, prepare to have your mind blown. If you have seen them before, prepare to have your mind blown. They are fabulous. Do yourself a favour and try to be there for the turn on... sunglasses optional. :goodvibes

Hey Courtney, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but just in case, are you attempting a FP+ for BOG using MyMagic+?

If you are, try this link... Be Our Guest Lunch

Again, if this is the one you're not getting any results from, my apologies, but I figured it never hurts to make sure. :thumbsup2

It's the best song ever. I don't know what you're talking about.

Heh I had some cute Disney outfits back in the day. I still remember getting sick on the bus. Unfortunately that's about all I remember.

Luckily for you my love affair with the Poly had not escalated at that point. :scratchin Hehe no I am MORE than happy with our royal guest room.

Churros on the run and no sleeping!!!

I have been marking off my countdown calendar :flower3: can't wait to see you Friday!

Thank you for reading it, Brenda! I think my Grammy is pretty excited for us, too.

Haha, I would be totally okay if someone called me a brat at Thanksgiving dinner :rotfl:

Yes, there are special character meets! I was going off of what my mom and sister saw last year as well as Kenny the Pirate's info, but more info will be coming out as the parties start.

It was a little odd to think about flying on Thanksgiving but honestly the prices were just so much more reasonable. And we'll still have a few hours of Disney fun when we get there!

What a wonderful reason to go to Disney and I am sure that your grandma would love to know you are there. :goodvibes

Thank you so much!!

Yeah, it's going to be a lot of new experiences, which I LOVE. Christmas is my absolute favorite so to combine that with Disney is just going to be incredible, I can tell.

Thank you Rob! I think she's very excited for us. I wish I remembered more of our trips together but I have pictures and some memories. :grouphug:

Birthdays in Disney! Yours is slightly more legit because it's your actual birthday, but I'm very excited to get the button.

I am so glad we managed to score one at PT. I had wanted Liberty Tree Tavern but obviously that's the hardest one to score. Plus I'm not sure MK is where I want to be on a holiday...so.many.crowds.

I am SO excited for the Osborne Lights! I have seen a lot of pictures but it doesn't compare to being there.

Hey Courtney, I hope this isn't a stupid question, but just in case, are you attempting a FP+ for BOG using MyMagic+?

That is the link we've been using, but for some reason they haven't opened up reservations for the day we're in MK! So we've been checking pretty constantly and hopefully they open up for us soon. Thanks so much though! I appreciate any and all help I can get!

Hi Courtney! I am new to your trip report, and I just wanted to post to let you know how much I am enjoying it!

Your story about your grandma is so sweet, and how great to honor her by going back to one of her favorite places. I bet you will treasure her trip journal forever! :goodvibes

I also have to post.....the "guy love" comment had me laughing out loud!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: We LOVE Scrubs!!! I even read what you wrote out loud to my husband, and he was cracking up, too! :lmao:
