Hurricane: Prayers, PD, & Good Thoughts to MD, NJ, NY, VA, SC, & NC DISers

They had to evacuate Mom. She's in NW MA [near the Berkshires]. But the river by her house was flooding. The house has been there 200 yrs, so I'm sure it's seen worse.

You must be worried. I hope she and the house are both ok. Let me know if she needs any assistance via PM. Will be thinking of her tonight.

Hey Gang....Just wanted to check with everyone from WIlliamsburg, VA...Still no power(have Generator) cable/net/phone/ kinda nice to be @ work with a/c, & the net and just good to be out of the house. 3 trees down, but not on the house. We are the lucky ones in the neighborhood, lots of trees on houses in the area....with team work/ good neighbors, clean up is on going.

Hope all is well where you are.

Glad that you are ok. I'm not sure what damage is in Va. Beach...I haven't gone out of the neighborhood. We lost 1 tree branch (scrapped the roof, but that's all...not sure how we are going to get it down yet..it's still stuck in the tree).....and the amazing thing is that we didn't loose power...it went out twice, but came right back in. My friend in Chesapeake lost her power Saturday morning and it's not scheduled to come back on until tonight.

I hope by now Irene has past by everyone and that you all are ok. :grouphug:

Today is the anniversary of Katrina and I'm in New Orleans, so I understand the devastation that a hurricane can cause. While Irene was nothing like Katrina, there are people that still died and others that were negatively affected. To those people, I send my condolences and best wishes!

Finally got our power back this morning. We had water coming up from the basement floor so we spent Sunday morning sweeping it to the sump pump. Then at 2:30 the power went out and we spent another 3 hours bailing out the sump pump. We finally opened the sewer line and just let the pump drain into the sewer. We had about 1/2 inch of water and the rug in DH's office is now soaking wet. We finally borrowed a generator from DH's cousin. It stopped during the night. We got it going this morning and when we came back in the house the power was on!!!! Now to get my life back to normal.

Still waiting for our power to come back on. But at least it has cooled off! No damage to our house only trees down in the yard. Oh, and I hit a deer with my new car on Mon. I just keep telling myself how lucky we are that no one was hurt and no real damage to our house. We were supposed to go to Disney the 9th. Getting worried we may have to put off that trip. :headache:

Power was going off and on all day yesterday. It stayed on all night so I guess that's a good sign. Need to get the rug up in DH's office and see if any sheet rock needs to be replaced.

:headache: Still no power here....getting real old!!!!

Glad to be @ work with the a/c & net

Hope all are doing well!

I saw on Good Morning America how badly New Jersey was affected by the storm....I was shocked when they mentioned Little Falls....I lived there during my High School years...when I saw the pictures of the flooding I felt so sad.

I hope everyone is starting to recover now and get back to normal life. We still have some clean up to do, but I'm not going to worry too much about it...it will be there after we come home from vacation.

Brick NJ checking in...luckily we were fine, although where I live I can see the GSP (between 98 and 90 where it was closed) and it was eerie not seeing ANY traffic!

We just got our power back last night. We had one big limb fall that luckily missed everything but the neighbors fence. With the Passaic River over flowing, driving around here is a mess.

Although, the weather is absolutely gorgeous and we went to the US Open yesterday and sat in the sun all day, watching tennis and drinking over priced beers. That was one stressful weekend.

Next time I hear a hurricane is hitting somewhere in the south, I'll have a new appreciation of what you're going through.

Update-
6" of water in house.
basement flooded.
front porch gone.
furnace gone.

All stuff. Stuff can be replaced/repaired.

She's about 3 miles from VT border, where things were much worse.
