Hurricane: Prayers, PD, & Good Thoughts to MD, NJ, NY, VA, SC, & NC DISers

my aunt lives in accomack county va and she has already evacuated, were in middlesex county nj. i wasnt worried untill i saw the conditions in north carolina. the winds were way worse than i had thought. stay safe.

Uneasy calm here in North Jersey. Not the slightest breeze.
I just went for a bike ride to try and pass the time.
Irene isn't coming until dinner.
It's humid and feels like the tropics.
I actually saw a guy boarding up his house. This is so new to me.
So many damn trees here.

Best wishes to those getting hit now.

Waiting here in NYC, too. We are not in an evacuation zone. We have 4 days of food, just in case, although my husband swears that the Korean bodega on the corner NEVER closes.

Soft rains just started falling here in NYC. Things are quiet, at least for the moment. Not much of a breeze.

Went out this AM because I had to pick up our farm share. Roads are mostly empty by us. I'm using up our farm produce by making a western omlette.

Is this what they call the calm before the storm?

Gusty winds here (35 MPH) but that is about it here. Even the Greensboro, NC location of Wet'n Wild is opening today.

Heavy rain and winds....we are in a tornado warning as well. So far, it's not too bad...but the worst is yet to come.

Prayers to everyone in Irene's path

Will check back in later.

I'm hoping we don't lose power. We're in a high rise. However, we bought a few kerosene lanterns and charged up our Kindles just in case.

I hope everyone is safe, and has the good sense not to name their May 2012 babies Irene.

I'm watching the Weather Channel and things look pretty bad in Virginia Beach. Yet these people are driving around in the background. What are these people thinking?

Be very careful with the Kerosene lanterns inside an apartment.

I had a high school friend die from an accident.

Stay safe.

Looks like the storm has shifted slightly west bringing it closer to us.:scared1:

I've heard conflicting advice. Do we crack the windows open or not??

NO- do NOT crack open the windows. Old wives tale that can actually do significant damage.
Here's Snopes answer and explanation- there are many more similar explanations out the on the "inter-webs"!

Did my final hurricane shopping this morning. Filled up 2 coolers with ice cubes, got fruit and veggies.

I also made the Tastefully Simple Beer Bread and Lemon Bars!! Yummmm...
Almost can't wait for the power to go off! ;)

Stay safe everyone. :thumbsup2

There are always people out in these storms...."they just want to see what it's like"...most of the time its tourists
