Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Watching the weather channel and it seems they have extended their hurricane warnings more inland now. Oh my...

We're watching the progress, we leave very early in the morning. We'll be down there til the 16th. We're driving from TN. We're not panicking, but we're certainly concerned. While we hope to make our check in @ CBR tomorrow, if we have to stop and stay put elsewhere through the night; do you know if Disney would credit our reservation back? We didn't purchase insurance on our package. I'm wondering if they make exceptions for emergency type situations such as Matthew? If not, stopping would still be worth our safety. But, recouping the added cost for another hotel would be helpful. I of course would call them to inform we got stuck and won't be there til Saturday. Would I just call the general reservations line if so?

Please do not go. They are saying things will get very bad tomorrow, it will be the height of the storm. It will not be safe. They are asking people to stay inside tomorrow.

I would be staying as far away as possible from Florida and the coast until this thing is over. I don't think they need more people arriving at this time. It sound like bedlam as it is.

Agreed. Put your Disney trip cash aside for next year. There's too much uncertainty with what's going to go down in the next 48 hours.

This is not a just a bad thunderstorm, this is the KING OF BAD THUNDERSTORMS.

My coworker is planning to fly in on Saturday and staying until Wednesday of next week. He's considering cancelling but would lose $800 in air fare. He's wondering if he should take a chance and go. Any advice you experienced travelers can give him?
It appears that some Sat flights are already being canceled. Wait till tomorrow, you may know more, the airlines might cancel and the flight would be refunded. (hopefully) I'll tell you I have a friend who works for American in customer service, he likes to quote rules, but I hear that so far the airlines are being very accommodating.

Thank you so much for the feedback! My gut was leading that way, but we were still foolishly hoping for the best as this will wreck our Saturday plans. But, I do want to be responsible and safe
This is going to be a 12- 15 hour event. They are predicting hurricane force winds in Orlando all throughout the afternoon. You do not want to be coming into Orlando tomorrow at all.

I get it. I mean, DOESN'T MATTHEW KNOW THAT WE'VE BEEN PLANNING THIS FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS?? FASTPASSES!! DINING!! But....yeah, it's time to get real. On the plus side, our Lego Castle came today. If we have to postpone our vacation a few days...or totally....I guess I'll break that out instead of saving it for Christmas. :goofy:

Interesting graphic showing the wind fields based on the 5PM projection. Again a move to the left or right changes this.

Another thing to remember - nothing will be delivered by train/truck/plane tomorrow. You would be amazed at the sheer volume of food and supplies used up every day. If roads become impassable after the storm, this supply drain will exacerbate by the day. When my area lost power for 6 days, grocery stores had to be emptied (b/c they also were without power), and it was another 1-2 weeks before we had a fully stocked grocery store again (every type of food can't just show up on every truck at once...and when it does, people are vultures:)). And, we had fully passable roads throughout the event. It takes time to recover when you have supply interruptions, even if you have no other issues.

Woosh...that was a long read.....
Was in Orlando for Floyd...it missed. What did I learn? Can't predict what a storm will do.
Was in Washington DC for Isabelle...it hit. What did I learn? You can use your Sharpie, if your stupid enough to go out in the storm. Write your name on your forearm so you can be identified. haha...but no really...they said to do that. Something I will never forget.

These people are absolutely raiding the refrigerators here like it's Costco. Poor CMs are carting supplies back and forth.

We live approximately 200 miles north of where Katrina made landfall on the Mississippi, Louisiana line. After Katrina we had downed trees, no electricity for a week, and with no electricity gas pumps didn't work and stores didn't open. Many roads weren't passable. Just a perspective on what Orlando might expect.

Don't be surprised if resorts begin to move to more minimal staffing to necessary only. Get what you need now, even if a line.

Trader Sam's will be closing tonight at 8 so our skippers can try to get home and be safe.

Here is one of the box lunches. IMPORTANT info in red and honestly I think the price is a ripoff for that. I think $7-8 still puts a huge profit in their pocket. Sad.

But you are so right. I'm so glad we are safe and am sending positive thoughts to those who stayed, but I was still so depressed this morning knowing a third of our trip was not happening. Sure we will go again another time but we planned so long for this and are so bummed it ended up this way. I should have bought the Lego castle before we left! Might have mollified kids. :)

That's absolutely shameful that they're selling that for $12.99. How awful to be taking advantage of their stranded guests like that. I expected better of Disney than that.

If I had paid $13 for that, I would have been livid. Not cool, Disney! I know they can't just give them away, but $5 or $6 would have been more like it.
