Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

So the bus wait was ridiculous to get to Disney Springs. We opted to pay $12 for a taxi.
The lines are insane down here and we got here after 5. We decided to buy movie tickets, go shop, and have junk food and drinks for dinner :) we feel pretttty good about our choice!

Seems to be all resorts. Hopefully the returns are better with folks spread out more.

We are at YC. Knowing the storm was coming, 2 days ago, I made ADRs at Beaches and Cream for lunch and yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner. They were both honored. Last night and today, they played games in the lobby and Pluto and Chip and Dale were around. We went down to Beach Club and Minnie and Donald were in the lobby in Beach clothes playing with the kids and they had games going. We walked over to Boardwalk when the rain stopped and they had Pluto and Goofy walking around outside. We are at Disney Springs now and there are stores not on the above posted list that have opened. A lot remain closed, but several non Disney are open. We bought cereal, pop tarts, chips and games yesterday, but we have not used any of it. Not the day we wanted (we had MK, BOG and MNSSHP planned), but Disney worked hard to help their guests make the best of it. We actually thought Yachtsman was the best meal we have ever had at Disney.

Actually only One. The other guy is only washing glasses!!
Same at the Poly last night. The poor guy had been there since 7am (we were there at 8pm). After we got our drinks, they were closing for 1/2 hour and going to reopen with a "limited menu". I hope they had a replacement for the bartender!!

At DS waiting for our Homecoming seating. We didn't wait any longer for a bus at AoA than any other day. 5 came within about 10 minutes. Everything here is a zoo though.

Kona at Poly is honoring ADRs but has a prefix menu -
If you fancy some amusement, watch Captain Hook dance to Michael Jackson.

I watched this Captain Hook for most of the day - Super Awesomeness all day! I actually have movies of him dancing to Miley Cyrus Party in the USA, Katy Perry Firework, and possibly my favorite was watching Captain Hook REQUEST and then dance to Let It Go from Frozen...no moves were left undone!

My daughter also colored with Captain Hook for about 15 minutes while everyone else watched and tried to get an autograph...if any of them bothered to sit down and color with him they might have gotten one ;)

We ate at Ohana tonight. We had ADRs at Kona but the menu was too limited for us. Their was a fixed price menu for adults (steak, fish, Asian noodles with shrimp) and kids (chicken nuggets, hot dog, salmon). The buffet at Ohana was much better for us! If you were not on a dining plan and were paying OOP, it was 30% off of $40/adult and $22/child. It was a very reasonable price for what was offered. The wait was not bad at all - it was about 30 minutes for them to text that it was ready.

What can you expect tonight? CM's were told not to work today. I think they're doing the best they can in difficult times.
Actually CM were told earlier today to report to work at 1pm for all of their shifts. I have a friend that works at Skipper Canteen at MK and he was posting how eerie it was to be at the park with no guests. They had them doing clean up and checking the areas

Off topic - even birds need a break from this storm

That doesn't mean all of them were able to actually go in. Many have kids who they can't just find a baby sitter for with barely any notice. I'm sure a bunch did make it in to help with clean up but once you tell people sorry we're closed don't come in it is very hard to get them back in.

I agree - I know a handful of CMs who were called and told to come in this afternoon and they all said nope. Some had lost power, one had downed trees and couldn't get her car out of the garage, a few had kids out of school and no one to watch them - and I'm sure some just didn't want to go in! I don't blame them really. It's great that some went in to try to get things ready for tomorrow, but I'm sure there were plenty that didn't even answer the phone.

No more characters / free arcade games at AoA. But the Big Blue Pool is open (and super crowded).

We are going to be checking out and heading to MK early tomorrow so we are back in our room.

I maintain that here at SSR we drew the shortest of short straws. I am reading the other reports of the other hotels, and comparing how it was dealt with here. Individual CMs were of course polite and enthusiastic. Organisation, communication and provision were appalling. I would have loved many of the experiences in the other hotels. Here, it was mostly a trial. I am grateful we are all safe of course.
