Hurricane Ivan

We're just starting to feel the effects here in Montgomery. We're getting gusts to 24mph. At this point, I'm more concerned about tornados spawning off than I am about winds. They reported 2 deaths on the news from a tornado in Panama City Beach.

Two weeks ago we were in Gulfport MS, tonight they showed some pictures of the water, and I can't believe it's the same calm water I was swimming in!

Those more south of me are definately in my prayers tonight!

Ivan's gone from Montogmery. Lots of trees and branches down around the area, most of the cities surrounding have no power. Cleanup is going to take a while though....

Hope everyone else in the path is ok!

DH talked to his parents in Crestview, FL about 30 miles north of Fort Walton. They had lots of wind but no significant damage. Lost a limb from one tree and some shingles on the roof and they don't have any power but all are ok.

His mom has decided to get a generator before the next storm. We thought we'd take them one when we go down there on vacation in a couple of weeks but all the stores in the Dallas area are out of stock. I guess they shipped them all to Florida.

Hope everyone else's loved ones have come through Ivan safely.

Hello from Mobile, AL! We made it through safely, in fact all of Mobile seemed to have made it through ok. Now we are definitely not damage free. The hospital where I work sustained minimal structural damage and some water damage. Several cars had trees on them and many power lines were down. From what we have heard, Baldwin County (Gulf Shores, Orange Beach....) and Escambia County (Pensacola...) were hit worse. They were on the northeast side of the eye to the best of my understanding. Most of Mobile County is still without power, to include my home, but on the way into work tonight I saw AL Power trucks already working hard. Thank you to all the utility personnel supporting us! The most important thing is that all the damage, although frustrating, is repairable and for the most part can be replaced, but our loved ones are safe and that is truly the most important thing. We did read of some loss of life from tornado activity. God be with their loved ones....My DH put his hand through a window trying to pry it open this morning. He's ok, probably could have used a few sutures, but was not worth the long ER wait when there's so much else to do....That's the worst injury our family sustained, we consider ourselves blessed.

East bound I-10 lost several sections of highway--they have collapsed into the Bay--if anyone in AL, MS, or LA was planning on driving--a detour will be necessary. Westbound had some damage as well, but no noticeable sections missing.

Interstate 10 Bridge Washed Out Over Escambia Bay

PENSACOLA, FL (AP) - You can't drive across Florida's Escambia Bay on Interstate-10 because the bridge is washed out. Hurricane Ivan has destroyed a quarter-mile section of the eastbound section of the bridge.

The concrete was pushed up and is now partially in the water. The westbound section is still
standing, but is damaged. The alternate route would be U-S Highway 90, which also crosses the bay north of the I-10 bridge.
