I'm looking through these pictures and I'm amazed at a lot of what I see. There are a few from my job at The Zoo. Looks like it's going to be awhile before I return to that job. I miss my babies, I'm just glad they are all okay. A lot of their homes have to be rebuilt. I thought I would leave a link to the photos if any of you are interested. The Pensacola News Journal has done an EXCELLENT job on reporting through this hurricane.

Hi,

I have been viewing these pictures every since since the Journal started posting them! Some award winning photography!

I am stunned at the widespread damage.

Are any of the rroads in the area open down onthe Beach? Is 98 open all the way east and west?

I see ToyRUS donated tons of items. Good for them.,
Where are your zoo animals if their homes have been so damaged they are uninhabitable?

Most of the homes just have trees and/or fences down. A lot of our animals have what are called bedrooms, so they are left in there til some or most of the area is cleared so they can come out and get some fresh air.
So many of our caregivers are working long shifts to get them taken care of and when the zoo does finally reopen it will be a short one, maybe half a day, like from 12-5 and certain things will not be running, such as the train. The tracks haven't been looked at yet and even though so many come to ride the train, it just isn't as important as restoring our animals homes.
Disney, The Lowry Park Zoo, and Busch Gardens came down to help us rebuild and donated lots of food, water, and time to those who needed as far as employees and families are concerned. It's been quite amazing. I haven't got a chance to visit yet, as I've only had time to call and get updates on our progress, but I've heard we're looking a lot better.
