My wife and I were on vacation at the Disneys Vero Beach resort in September 2017. The first day was a beautiful sunny day. We had a beautiful ocean view room. no one was sure how intense Hurrican Irma was going to be but We all were on notice that once they knew where it was heading they would keep us informed on what they wanted us to do. By the next morning we got a phone call from the front desk that the whole area was under mandatory evacuation and we needed to pack and leave. We were booked into the Polynesian Resort to ride out the storm. We packed and headed out to DPR. we had a great room over looking the water all the way to the Magic Kingdom. The first day at the resort we were constantly receiving updated notices on where the storm was heading And It looked like it was heading our way. We spend the day at the Magic Kingdom which was very eery since there was hardly no one there. When we got back to the room we found out that the storm was heading right for Orlando and they wanted all guests to stay in their rooms. The storm eventually hit us and we were kept up to date the whole time by the resort and they cared very much for our safety. The eye of the storm was almost right in Orlando during the day, so before it reached us the winds were intense. When we were in the eye of the storm it was very calm and as the eye passed it became intense again. Those buildings can withstand a large storm which Irma was. While outside our building, the storm was so intense and very dangerous. We felt very safe in our room. As the storm past and it was safe to leave our rooms Disney Resorts had large dining areas to feed all the guests. If you are stuck and have no place to go Disney knows how to keep their guests safe. If you are told to get out! GET OUT! but if for some reason you can’t your best bet of staying safe is a Disney property. Please be safe, hurrican Ian is a major hurricane. This is very dangerous to put you and your family in harms way. Listen to what you are told, its not a game. My wife and I were in Hilton Head Island yesterday. We were supposed to stay until the week end but we rebooked our flight back to the west coast where we live yesterday afternoon and left. Got back to Vegas on time last night. Today is going to be very tough to get out since more airports are closing by the hour. Don’t wait to the last minute. Disney Resorts will make sure to keep you all as safe as they possibly can. STAY SAFE!!!!!
