My wife and I were on vacation at the Disneys Vero Beach resort in September 2017. The first day was a beautiful sunny day. We had a beautiful ocean view room. no one was sure how intense Hurrican Irma was going to be but We all were on notice that once they knew where it was heading they would keep us informed on what they wanted us to do. By the next morning we got a phone call from the front desk that the whole area was under mandatory evacuation and we needed to pack and leave. We were booked into the Polynesian Resort to ride out the storm. We packed and headed out to DPR. we had a great room over looking the water all the way to the Magic Kingdom. The first day at the resort we were constantly receiving updated notices on where the storm was heading And It looked like it was heading our way. We spend the day at the Magic Kingdom which was very eery since there was hardly no one there. When we got back to the room we found out that the storm was heading right for Orlando and they wanted all guests to stay in their rooms. The storm eventually hit us and we were kept up to date the whole time by the resort and they cared very much for our safety. The eye of the storm was almost right in Orlando during the day, so before it reached us the winds were intense. When we were in the eye of the storm it was very calm and as the eye passed it became intense again. Those buildings can withstand a large storm which Irma was. While outside our building, the storm was so intense and very dangerous. We felt very safe in our room. As the storm past and it was safe to leave our rooms Disney Resorts had large dining areas to feed all the guests. If you are stuck and have no place to go Disney knows how to keep their guests safe. If you are told to get out! GET OUT! but if for some reason you can’t your best bet of staying safe is a Disney property. Please be safe, hurrican Ian is a major hurricane. This is very dangerous to put you and your family in harms way. Listen to what you are told, its not a game. My wife and I were in Hilton Head Island yesterday. We were supposed to stay until the week end but we rebooked our flight back to the west coast where we live yesterday afternoon and left. Got back to Vegas on time last night. Today is going to be very tough to get out since more airports are closing by the hour. Don’t wait to the last minute. Disney Resorts will make sure to keep you all as safe as they possibly can. STAY SAFE!!!!!

Here now sipping coffee from our 1 BR villa at BWV. Strange seeing the skyliner with no cars on it. Pretty calm right now, but we know the worst is yet to come. We helped clean out the corner store of ice cream last night! All the CM's have been great. This is our first hurricane in 30 visits. Have plans to extend our trip one extra night by staying at my brothers house in Polk City. That way we could visit Epcot one move time on Friday and salvage what has been a great trip so far. So far the rum supply is safe, but it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

Casualty of Hurricane Irma Sept 2017. The buildings held tight. This was a catagory 3 storm. Ian may hit even stronger. Please make sure you stay safe.

Stay safe, seems this storm is growing in intensity. when we were there through hurricane Irma in 2017 that storm was very intense, it was a catagory 3. This storm seems to be more intense.

We were right at the Poly with you. We had a 10 night stay and came in on the last JetBlue flight to MCO from EWR. The plane literally had about 30 passengers.
I remember seeing the tree that had fallen. I remember we were able to walk to the Poly lobby and see the characters, etc.
We stocked up on our food/alcohol supply when we got there and were good the 1-2 days that we were not in the parks.

Just left Polynesian this morning. We cut our stay short to head home early. We were on the Disney Wish over the weekend.

DCL canceled cruise for Friday and the current 4 day will become a 5 or 6 day.

We had light rain this morning and skies cleared once above Gainesville. We saw many evacuee’s at the Rest Stop. 🙏🏻👍🏻

We were at the Polynesian a day before it hit. When we went to the Magic Kingdom it was empty. I have a picture of my wife standing in front of the castle in the early afternoon and she was the only one in the picture. If you have to be anywhere in a Hurricane, Disney would be the place to be. They took very good care of all of us.

We cut our vacation short and left Hilton Head Island yesterday, mainly to avoid the canceled flights. Looking at flights today, most were canceled. I think you did the right thing to leave. Don’t think I would want to be on a cruise in the ocean right now,
