Our flight lands at 7:30 pm on a Friday. I am certain that my kids will be hungry when we land at the airport. Given that we're take the ME to POP, should we grab some food to go while in the airport?

If so, can anyone tell me what food choices are available? Also, is it weird for the kids to eat (chicken nuggets, pizza, or similar) while on the ME?

TIA!

There are plenty of food outlets at the airport, however, you cannot eat or drink while riding ME. You would need to consume your meal before boarding the bus.

We normally land about 1PM, and have lunch in the landslide food court. Several options (most not particularly healthy...but it's vacation) and usually pretty quick.

Thank you so much for the input! The maps are very helpful because now I have an idea of the food choices when we arrive.

Thanks again!

Your flight could be delayed. I'd bring food and eat on the plane. You could either bring food from home, consistent with the liquid rule, or buy a sandwich in your departure airport. Many airports have places which sell sandwiches past security.

You could also pack/purchase dinner to eat during the flight - this way you can get to WDW quicker!

I usually pack a soft sided cooler (that fits into one of the carryons) with sandwiches, fruit and snacks and then purchase driniks after security. Frozen grapes or carrots work well as an ice pack!

I agree...eat on the plane. Airport food is so expensive.

I would say pack food or snacks and eat when you get to Pop...

I did just learn (and tried it out to confirm) that you can bring a frozen water thru security. As long as it is frozen when you go thru you are all set. Then when you get to FL you will have water. I am sure this would work with other beverages too...I just did the water.

That frozen water tip is awesome!!

I was planning to pack lunch to eat when we arrived at the airport before our first segment. However, instead we will eat a fast food lunch at the airport (since we have plenty of time) and then eat packed sandwiches & fruit while on the plane for the second segment! That will allow us to quickly get to the ME then over to POP for a proper meal.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

I have another question to piggyback off of this one, if you dont mind.

We are in the same situation next month - landing about 6:30 PM after about 8 hours of travel time.

If we choose to get a quick bite before picking up the rental car, what would happen to our luggage?? Is it safe to not be there right away as it is coming off the carousel??

Thanks !

My past two trips, I went down and collected my luggage then went back up to the food court to eat. My wife actually got in line, ordered the food, waited for it, and found a table, and by that time I was back with the bags.

I wasn't too worried about a thief making off with my luggage (though a possibility), but I was concerned about baggage services collecting it and putting storing it somewhere not-easy to find. If luggage is going round-and-round, they might think it's lost and bring it into their office for processing.

Baggage Services will collect your items. Typically if you do not pick up your items within 15 minutes after the last bag arrives an agent will collect them and secure them. Don't worry though they won't send them off. All they do to process them is indicated the bag is on hand at the station. Now if you don't pick it up within a few days then it will be shipped off to a centeral processing location to locate the owner but I wouldn't worry.

In fact I do this all the time. It is easier than waiting with 100 other people fighting to get the bag off the belt. Just walk up, show the agent your bag ticket and ID and you are all set.

Sorry...I'm not clear on what you do all the time: do you let the bags be collected then go to the office? Or do what I do and collect before they take the bags to an office?

If you let them collect the bags, are you worried your bags will be behind a locked door and you can't get to them? I'd hope when baggage services went to lunch/took a break the bags would be in a secure place, but I've never let it get that far....or I'd hate to be behind a planeload of people who's bags were misdirected to Detroit, waiting in line for something I could have picked up on my own if I had just spend 5 minutes down at the bag belt.

We usually eat in the airport before our flight, even if it's just a sandwich and not a big meal. Then we eat again after we arrive at the resort.

I usually let them collect them and bring them to the office. I am not sure what airline you are traveling on but most of the major airlines have the office staffed at regular operating hours. I have never had an issue with there not being an employee around, but you are correct there may be some risk. It really depends again on who you are flying on and what airport you are flying into. I can say MCO shouldn't have many issues with staffing.

i would wait and eat at the hotel foodcourt, if can't wait have crackers or peanut butter crackers to tide over for hte half hour (ish) trip to the hotel

We typically divide and conquer. I grab something quick and get bags. My wife and kids get something to sit down and eat. Sometimes they get down to baggage claim before the bags are out, and sometimes I'm waiting for them ready to go.
