anyone have any great ideas on how to keep some moisture in the air in the car when you have the heater running?

we leave thurs. for a 2 day (16 hr.) drive, and i forgot how much i HATE having the heat on because the air gets so dry, so quickly (had the heater on yesterday for the 1st time this season)...hopefully, we'll only need the heat on for the first half of the drive (once we hit atlanta, it should be warm, right!?!?)

i know they sell "personal humidifiers" that plug into a car, but i didn't order one in time. i was trying to figure out if they sell special filters that you can fill with water and just place over your vents in the car, or if there is anything else i can do to keep that "static-y-hair, dry-eyes-and-throat, need-some-water-desperately" feeling that seems to really bother my kids (and me too!).

we give the kids as much to drink as possible during the drive (and the few days prior to the trip) to keep them hydrated, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

any suggestions?

thanks,

Open your outside air vents part-way, that's what I usually do.

You could also probably try putting something waterproof on the back deck beneath the window, then putting a few damp dishtowels on it. (Not wet, just damp.) Might also be a good idea to carry an atomizer of water and give your faces an occasion spritz.

A little spritz bottle of clean water will do the job. Just mist every now and then down toward the floor. You don't need to worry about the carpet -- it sees your wet shoes every time it rains so an occasional spritzing isn't going to do any harm. You can also give your face an added shot if you desire -- and it's fun to nail the kiddies to keep them on their toes.

Don't know if this works on all cars. Put it on vent and raise the temperature control. That's what I do on my car.

thanks, everyone. wow, seems so simple to think of just bringing a mist/spray bottle...but of course, i DIDN"T think of it, so i'm so glad you guys did!!

one less thing to worry about....

thanks again!
