Anyone live there or familiar with the area? Even though he has not been given official orders, my husband has been told that's where he is likely going to be stationed, so it sounds like we will be moving there this summer.
I do know about 216, and the abundance of "herbs" in the area. I also used to spend 2 weeks every summer in Eureka, but I was a kid, so I just remember a drive in movie theater and the Somoa Cookhouse.
What are the nicer towns to live in around there? The nicer neighborhoods? We will not be going into government housing, and I'm willing to sacrifice money and square footage to be in a good area.
Are the mountain areas nearby nice? Or is that where all the "farms" are?
Any info. you have about schools would be great too! I'm a little worried about going from Maryland to California schools, and wondering if I need to think of private school?

My Son went to Humboldt State University for 2 years; 2008 and 2009. He lived in both McKinleyville and Arcata. The forests and beaches in the area are beautiful. It was a lovely place to visit, I can't answer about living there. My son was very happy to leave, but that's a loonngg story and doesn't have much to do with Humboldt ;)

Both homes he lived in had terrible problems with mold. The climate is very cold and damp. Between the damp, the mold and his pre-existing mild asthma, he was constantly sick.

For us locating off campus housing for the University was a nightmare and much of it was down right disgusting:eek:

Yes, there is alot of "herb" activity there and what I thought was a high percent of "homeless wanderer's" compared to the size of the town.

Sorry, that's all I know.

Thank you!
I'm noticing from searching property management websites and craigslist that good housing seems few and far between. A lot of houses seem run down or out dated...but they are still asking a lot of money for them! Yikes!
After living on the Oregon coast we know all about that mold thing, but I'll take it for the beauty of the redwoods and to be near family again. :)
