DH hates Orlando. Has been to Disney 3x in 26 yrs, only b/c I insisted. I brought the boys to Universal several years ago when he was travelling for work all summer, and I've been trying to get him to come back with us ever since. We had to book a trip this year, and had to do it fast, and I somehow got him to agree to come to Universal.

I've been talking about rides and wardrobe needs and places to eat for weeks now. Dh has been unimpressed. He did allow that he would love to eat at Emeril (either one), since this is the closest we've been to one.

Now the funny: Last night he picked up one of my new guide books and started looking at the Citywalk restaurants. Then he started looking at menus online. He now thinks he's going to eat really, really well, even if he does hate theme parks and Orlando and Florida heat. I think he has picked out enough things at Cowfish for double our vacation days.

I TOTALLY get this! :) My hubby was rather stand-offish about the whole Universal trip at first, and then he found something he liked - a couple of great menus, the Minions (he is a Gru wannabe), and the Blues Brothers! He has read the Harry Potter books and likes all things Potter, but will not be impressed with the anticipated crowds in that area.

But hey! If he has found some good food, and a bit of entertainment to keep him in the game - and that's totally ok! Whatever works! :rolleyes2

I've never been one that had to be forced to vacation at an amusement park resort - so I can't relate to that part - but I'll admit that I now look forward to the restaurants/food every bit as much as the parks. When I added 2 nights to my trip this year, it wasn't the extra times I could ride my favorite rides that came to mind - it was the 2 extra lunches and dinners that I could now add into my plan.

Re: Cowfish - the exact same thing happened to me. Was looking at menus for my trip, saw too many things I wanted to try in the 1 Lunch and 1 Dinner I was planning at the CityWalk Cowfish. Since we have a Cowfish locally, I figured I'd try some of them out here before my trip. Put my name on the waiting list at 5pm on a Saturday and was told that the wait was going to be between 3 and 3 1/2 hours! So now I'm back to narrowing down my options.

I hope the great eats at CityWalk impress him enough to keep him happy! Have you though about taking a break from the parks one day? He (and you) might enjoy exploring Winter Park, which is about 20 minutes from Universal. It has a beautiful downtown area for an afternoon or evening stroll, with plenty of food options, some of which have gained national attention (The Ravenous Pig, Cask and Larder, and Luma on Park, to name a few).

Here's a list of food spots chosen by Andrew Zimmerman: http://www.foodandwine.com/slideshows/12-places-to-stay-eat-shop-in-and-around-orlando#!slide=5

It might be a nice break from the theme parks, and maybe your husband will end up liking the real Orlando :)

Poor dh, he's a hike in the woods or go learn something kind of guy, and I've been dragging him to amusement parks for almost 30 years. He's roller-coastered-out, I think. He also has a hard time dealing with heat, which is the "hates Orlando" part.

I've been trying to give him some ideas for outside the park things, and so far he's not been too interested. I think I need to remind him of the old airplane museum in Kissimmee that he visited in 89, when I was doing a seminar and he was trying to stay busy. He had a great time that day, and the boys LOVE airplane museums. But I think he's going to be mostly interested in the lazy river at WBC.

I am going to show him the link to the food and wine stuff, too. He really enjoys that kind of thing. Thanks for that info, Sunshine. :)

No problem! If you need any ideas for activities, let me know; I've lived in Orlando for most of my life and have discovered many wonderful places. It always saddens me when people think of Orlando as being just the theme parks or the tacky shops in Kissimmee... There's so much more!
