DH and I went to our bank here in the U.S. It is HSBC to see if there were local brances in London, Manchester and/or Scotland. The teller had no idea....I checked the UK HSBC website and was unable to find locations for ATM's or branches. We are debating weather or not to get international travelers checks, regular travelers checks, US currency or Pounds? If they just go with US currency they will need a bank. If they go with travelers checks they will need to pay a few for cashing them everytime they need pounds unless they do it at the bank. If we buy pounds here it is quite a bit of cash that they will be taking that is why I like the idea of travleors checks? Anyone have any great ideas?

We have HSBC banks every where over here my DH works for them. The advise they have given is bring a small amount of pounds and the rest in travellers cheques. Check the exchange rate for both and see what the best rate would be before you decide. We think they charge 1% to cash a cheque at the branches. You will always find a branch they are in every town. Hope this helps

yeah there are HSBC banks everywhere in fact the head office for HSBC UK is in the London Docklands and is rather an impressive building situated close to canary wharf :thumbsup2

Thank you for the info. This makes things so much easier. 1% is not a problem. I didnt feel comfortable giving my duaghter all cash to take. Thanks again.

Thank you. DH will have to look up th hotels to find the nearest one! Thanks again.
