Hi there...we are thinking of doing a mini 2 day trip to Universal studios prior to our July 2006 7 day Western Disney Cruise. We have stayed at the HRH about 3 years ago and was disappointed in the service level but loved the proximity to the parks and Front of Line Access.

How would you compare HRH to the Royal Pacific? What are some of the main differences...pros and cons of each. We will be traveling the 4 of us...

Me, Wife 38
Husband, 39
2 Boys, ages 11 & 6....

Thanks!!!!!

I have stayed at both and actually prefer the Royal Pacific. The walk to the parks is not bad at all from the RPR. We stayed in Tower One in a room that was far from the elevator, but right next to the stairway that lets you out on the path to City Walk. It took me maybe five minutes to get to City Walk. You come out right by Margaritaville, so it's just a couple minutes walk from there to IOA. It's a little further to Universal Studios. You can also take the water taxi to City Walk.
The pool area was more quiet at the RPR, the hotel was very quiet. It depends on what type of atmosphere you want. RPR is more laid back.

We stayed at HRH this past June and LOVED the service we received. I'd even go so far as to say that the service at the HRH was better than the service we got at our Disney resort! (and that's saying alot! LOL)

This question comes up a lot and is subjective.
RPR is the fan favorite on these boards because some have had problems at the HRH recently. It's the "hip" place, and seems to be more popular. So they'll overbook rooms, "lose" reservations, and some report "snooty" service.
I've also been to both, the HRH 2 years ago, and the RPR this year. We had great stays at each. If you stay at the HRH, just be aware of these problems and look out for them. Check your reservation before going to make sure it's still on file. Try to check in early at 8am. And don't expect your room at 4pm, some don't get theirs until 6pm.
These problems do not happen at the RPR, so people from these boards are staying there are reporting good stays. The big advantage of the HRH is it's the closest to the parks, only a 5 minute walk.

Wow, we didn't experience any of the problems you mentioned. Thank goodness! :)

Disney cancelled our reservation at POR without our knowledge for our trip last summer. They had refunded our credit card but we didn't notice. Luckily I found out about a week before we left (we were driving!) and the manager somehow got us a new room. Very scary, but after reading these boards, I am realizing it is more common than I thought. Not just HRH, even Disney.

I guess the moral is check and recheck your ressies no matter where you are staying.
