My husbands insurance is changing at the end of the year and the money in our HRA is use it or lose it. We met our deductible months ago, don't have copays and very rarely have prescriptions. Any tips on how to use up a couple thousand dollars from an HRA?

Not sure what it can be used for since I don't have one or know the details and rules of them.
Eye glasses or contacts
Dental work
Over the counter medications
Medical supplies (band aids and stuff like that)

There is a website that was set up for people who need to spend their excess flex plans. You can probably google it (FSA spend) . I'm not saying you should spend it with that site--but rather go there to look at the kind of things that are considered acceptable expenditures. It might trigger a memory of something you need.

You can get your doctor to write prescriptions for otc medications

I had a client a couple of years ago that would use his money for massages. His doctor wrote a note for it so when it came time to be approved he had the note. Not sure if it will work for everyone but he was a completely healthy man.

And about that, which was hilarious at the time, in the month of December he must have come in to see me like 9 times. I thought, wow, this is kind of creepy. Then starting in January he would come to see me just twice a month and I was REALLY confused then. Later down the road he told me that he used his HSA and it all made sense to me why he had 9 massages in 4 weeks :rotfl:

Have you checked with your dh's employer, they will tell you what they allow it to be used for.
