Newbie to the forum and also to staying on-site. I'm torn between the:confused HR or RP. I'm going with a group of freinds and my girlfriend to hhn and we can't decide which one. Anyone recommend one over the other and why? Thanks!

Both are beautiful, I've never stayed at RPR but I have seen the resort and rooms. I stay at the Hard Rock because the rooms are bigger, we usually have 5 in our room and RPR just isn't large enough to accomodate us comfortably.

If you are into rock and roll, and have 5 in your party, then Hard Rock is the place to go, if you like a tropical paradise and have less in your party, then RPR is your place. :thumbsup2

JMO. ;)

i belong to the 3 way club.
some homies call it, "i have stayed at all 3 hotels now"

all the hotels only allow 5 people per room.
if you have more than 2 people 18 and over, there will be an additional $25 per person, per night charge for your room.

i am assuming you all are 21/over as you can't rent a room onsite unless you are 21.

if the situation is 5 adults, stay at pbh.
rooms are larger there, especially the bathroom.

or Hrh as a sink/counter is also outside of the bathroom and convenient.
another sink in the bathroom. this will help for 5 adults.

it would be easier to have a roll away bed/$25 per night add on, or use an aero bed on the floor/nc to accomodate 5 people.

rph has less sq footage and would be tight for 5 adults.

Thanks for the replys. It'll be 7 all together. 4 in one room and 2 ib the other. As of now we have 2 rooms booked at the HR.

My bad I meant 6 people! 4 in one room and 2 in another!:dance3:

:)

One other piece of info. The RPR usually runs $20 to $30 less than the HRH for the same room type (standard, garden, water) per night, which is usually $20 to $30 less than the PBH.

I've stayed at the RPR for most of my past visits, but for my upcoming HHN trip, we decided to try HRH for a few extra bucks. It'll be our vist stay at the HRH.

For rates, the Super Saver Rate is good if you'll be staying for several nights. Good rates can also be obtained with either AAA membership or with AP (Preferred/Premium Annual Pass).

Also, after the first 2 adults in a room, each additional adult will be charged an additional nightly fee, usually $25 per adult.

aside from the cost - which resort do you prefer??

We absolutely loved HRH and are considering a split stay next time between HRH and Portofino, but possibly may try RPR!!! - just wondered which resorts you preferred and why??

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We've stayed at the PBH and RPR and I prefer the RPR because my wife tells me to.:lmao:

The RPR has three of our favorite eating establishments: Jake's American Bar, Island's Dining Room (breakfast buffet), and Emeril's Tchoup Chop. At PBH, although we really like Sal's, we weren't impressed with the breakfast buffet at Trattoria's.

The RPR also has a simplified floor plan which is easy to navigate. The PBH seems like it has a lot of hallways going in various directions. It took a while to determine the correct hallway to/from our room.

Of course, the PBH is a beautiful hotel. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a deluxe room with a step out balcony over one of the pools. The music on the Harbor Piazza is a very nice touch. We stayed there in December and was impressed with the large christmas tree decorating the Harbor Piazza. I deffinitely would like to stay at the PBH again, but for now, most of our visits will be at the RPR.

However, that can change this October with our first stay at the HRH.;)

thanks ever so much for this - one question - any ideas how long they leave up the christmas tree in PBH?? (We will probably be there for NYE until 3rd Jan) - that would be a nice end to our holiday vacation if that was still there!:lovestruc

Sorry, I don't know but hopefully someone else here does. We were there the second weekend in december. I would expect that they would wait until after New Years Day to take down, but that's just a guess.

HRH was fantastic and if want a really fun relaxed atmosphere you cannot go wrong. It is one of our favorite of all hotels we stayed in during 6 weeks in the US in May. Great pool, staff were great, food at The Kitchen was lovely. Cannot fault it. We stayed at Club Level and loved that as well.

Location to Universal was also great. Cannot say a bad thing about the place. Have not stayed at RPR but we would be hard pressed to ever stay anywhere other than HRH when going to Universal. Hope this helps.

We've done RPR and HRH. Both are awesome and beautifully done. We ended up liking HRH better. The whole atmosphere just suited us better. The roominess was nice. The pool is awesome...having a slide is important when you have a kid (doesn't affect your group, I realize). The music piped underwater is a cool touch. HRH is also closer to the parks, particularly UO. Just a very hip feeling all around. We did stay Club at HRH and fell in love with it. Dh won't stay without it!

I think you've made a great choice! If you can afford the price difference, I imagine you will love HRH. If you can't, honestly, you will not be disappointed in RPR...it is a beautiful resort too! Very tropical and lush.

What is the difference in room size between RPR and HRH? There are 5 of us 2 adults 3 kids and we are bringing a twin aero.

I have stayed in both RPR and HRH. We all liked HRH the best out of the two. I think it is just a lively resort with its rock music playing, the pool area was very vibrant too, with everyone having a good time and just sitting relaxing in the water. The RPR is a beautiful hotel but was a lot quieter round the pool. The RPR does have the Orchid Lounge which is a lovely place to go and eat breakfast instead of going to a proper restaurant. The Hard Rock had a better shop and an ice cream parlour/Starbucks shop.

The Hard Rock is the closest to the parks or at least it felt a lot closer.

We did visit the Portofino Bay hotel to go to the little deli there (which serves delicious food) and it was like stepping into a piece of Italy. We only saw the shopping/restaurant area and it was extremely quiet. It is also a lot further a way from the parks especially if you walk via the scenic river route. I think you would probably feel like getting the water taxi/bus back from the parks to this resort whereas with the other two there are a lot closer to walk.

However, they are both excellent hotels and you just wont be disappointed with whichever you choose.
