How young is too young?

Our dd was 8 months when we first took her. In all honesty it was one of the most relaxing vacations we have taken. She traveled easy. Our second DD I don't think will travel so easy.

you don't want to know how many sunbured infants i've seen.

I read a post somewhere on the boards that said that poster has taken a newborn - just a few weeks old. I think it's up to the discretion of the parents/guardians. My trip next May will include a 7 month old. But we will also have 11 or 12 adults (and a 4 year old), so there'll be plenty of people to help with the baby.

I think as long as the adults realize that the infant takes priority, no age is too young.

I think that sometimes a family will book a trip so far in advance that by the time the trip rolls around, there is another member of the family! Not much you can do about that. ;)

Exactly. My extended family and I have been planning our big trip in May since May of 2005. My cousin called me in Feb of this year to let me know that we'd have another family member joining us!

I dont understand why people always say "dont take them, they are too young and wont remember anything"!! The same holds true for any other vacation, ex. beach, mountain, etc. If no one took vacations until the kids could remember them then we would all be stressed from not going anywhere for so many years. Your pictures and video will be their memories and they will be priceless!!

I can't tell you how many sunburned adults I've seen!

That's a matter of common sense, not age. ;)

My first visit, I was less than 3 months old. Of course, that was October 1971, I forgive my parents.

I understand what OP is saying. When we see parents carrying newborns, we have to wonder too. But I can also see it from the parents perspective as well. If they have other children, the older ones can still enjoy themselves, and you don't stop the world for your other kids because of a newborn.

That having been said . . .to those who do bring newborns. . .please cover them up, their skin is very sensitive to the sunlight, and they need to be dressed like Marlon Brando in "The Island of Dr Moreau"

We took our first born in 1999 when she was 19 months....WHAT A MISTAKE!!! ha ha... she was too young...or maybe to in between...not a baby..not a big girl. It was very hard. So we decided not to go back until she was older. Now we have three kids! We are going in May and they will be 9, 7, 5! I think it will be so much easier! I won't have to deal with bottles, diapers, strollers! Hopefully they'll be able to hang for the fireworks! We'll see!

We took are ds when is was almost 1 years old(he turned 1 at WDW). He still remembers some of his first trip. We have been back 2 other times to WDW with him and he is going to turn 5 at WDW on are Nov trip this year.

Like the other couple people said " the more adults is better". It was me, wife, wifes sister, and my wife's parents on my son's first trip.

I would not personaly take a baby before they were almost 1 years old.

Later,

Bf and I had this conversation while we were at Disney...we said...When they are out of strollers and 40 inches.
Thats just us tho.

We've gone every year since my son was 6 months and there are challenges with every age. From ages 1-3 they don't want to be in the stroller so you're in danger of losing them in the crowds, they're afraid of a lot of attractions and they don't always want to nap with all the excitement around them so they get cranky by 4pm; at 4-6 they can go on most things, but maybe not all things, so there's disappointment as well as the over-tired melt-downs, and they are still afraid of a lot of things; at 7-12 they're a bit easier again, but still have their issues, and by the time they're teens they might be bored with the whole thing, don't want to hang out with Mom and Dad, and have some definite opinons about what they will and won't ride.

It's life. The good generally outweighs the bad with any age, so if parents are up for the challenge I say, go for it!

How young is too young? I think that differes for everyone personally. We had no problem taking the kids as infants.

most parents take their babies their for THEMSELVES, not particularly for the babies. it's for them to remember, mostly.

i would imagine it would be a hassle with the strollers and the rides and such. i think that when i have children, i'll probably bring them when they're young(more so because I'D want to go lol) but i probably wouldn't hit most of the rides. i'd do a few that the child could go on.

DH and I are taking our son in January and he will have just turned 2. DH and I went in December 2005 by ourselves when our son was almost one and I swore I would never go back without our kids! I just couldn't go back leaving someone that important to us behind. When we go this January, my parents are also coming along, so it's a 1:4 ratio. We also know we are not on this vacation for just the adults, our son is our clock, he dictates times to go and times to leave, times to eat and times to sleep. With that kind of flexibility I think we all will be able to enjoy his first trip! I know he won't remember much if anything at all, but it will be a wonderful memory for DH and I and my parents. We of course will take lots of pics and some video as well! Besides, he's free, what could be better than that????
