We are in the Eastern time zone. A meeting is scheduled and I cant figure out how to convert. Anybody know?

Here is the info:

When: Monday, October 05, 2009 4:00 PM-5:00 PM (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada).

If I recall, eastern time is one hour earlier than central. So taking at stab at it and saying that your meeting is 3-4. Although the GMT is tripping me up because it would be much later.

4-5 CST = 5-6 EST.

So it is 5-6.

Trust me, I have to do this all the time because all my relatives are in Central and I am Eastern.

5-6 Eastern is correct.

GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time - not sure I spelled it right, but the time zone from which the others are officially calculated.

P.S. - Disney trivia - Where does this line come from? - "The whole world takes it's time from Greenwich, but Greenwich, they say, takes it's time from Admiral Bird."

Check out the meeting planner on this site....

:thumbsup2

Greenwich Mean Time is near Greenwich, England (not CT, where I am!) and is the time in London. Be careful of "daylight" time and "summer" time, as it is called in Europe. That sight has all that info. Europe sets their clocks ahead and back on different weekends than we do. Lots a fun scheduling international conference calls in the spring and fall - yikes!

Ooh ooh... favorite movie ever...Mary Poppins!!! Back to OP ?, yes, it'd be 5-6 eastern time.

Bert from Mary Poppins! :rotfl2: Yes, I'm a nerd.

Marry Poppins. But it is Admiral Boom...

Marry Poppins. But it is Admiral Boom...

Thank you - you're right, I do think it's "Boom", not "Bird"! (Just the excuse I need to watch the movie again, though - so I can quote better next time! :thumbsup2:rotfl:)

Others - Very good, too! Glad to see there are a lot of fans out there.:):):)

OP - Good luck with your meeting.

The Eastern time zone is an hour ahead of Central time so it's an hour later.

I just looked at an online time converter and got this:

At the specified time, local time in Raleigh is 4 hours behind UTC

Location Local time Time zone
UTC Monday, October 5, 2009 at 16:00:00
Raleigh (U.S.A. - North Carolina) Monday, October 5, 2009 at 12:00:00 Noon UTC-4 hours EDT

Glossary
UTC Coordinated Universal Time - the international basis for other time zones. Same time as for GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)

Yeah - "(GMT-6:00)" is thrown in for both clarity to indicate the 'base' time from which all other time is calculated, and, well, yeah - to confuse people :teeth:

I'll never get why this is so confusing....

NYC (Eastern) is 1 hour ahead of Chicago (Central), 2hours ahead of Denver (Mountain) and 3 hours ahead of LA (Pacific).

Ummm actually not-UTC time-also refered to as ZULU time is constant -GMT on the other hand switches to British Summer Time at roughly the same time the US goes to daylight savings time. it can get very confusing.

Actually, it's an hour later. 4pm here is 5pm there.

Central Time is 6 hours behind GMT. That's what the GMT -6 means. :)

So when it's 10pm in Greenwich, it's 4pm Central Time, and 5pm Eastern.

Eastern is GMT -5

We're in Central time, but close enough to the line, that we cross into Eastern a lot. Also, they advertise TV shows at their Eastern times, with the Central time thrown in quietly at the end (WATCH THE NEW EPISODE!! TONIGHT AT EIGHT seven central), so I learned to convert at an early age, or miss the show I wanted to watch. :rotfl:
