How would this work at CS on DDP?

Looking over some of the menus, I think there's times when I'd love to order a side. For example, chili cheese fries at Cosmic Rays. How does that work? Can you count that as your entree, then just order a drink and dessert? I certainly would want it as an entree, not a side to anything else. (And, yes, I know that makes for a totally unhealthy meal, but yum!) Or is this totally impossible on DDP, you have to order an "entree" and it's accompanying side?

Generally, you can order sides and pay for them in cash, in addition to using your CS credit. There may be some cases where something like chili cheese fries might be considered an entree as you suggest, but it isn't something that the Dining Plan promises -- you can ask the cashier and if offered to you that way then you can chalk that up to a special exception made just for you. That's not uncommon at WDW.

I have a similar question. Along these same lines, can the soup/salads be ordered as an appetiser. They are generally cheaper and I think it might be nicer to have a side salad than an appetizer.

this is exactly what we did one day last week. We had 4:00 dinner ressies at CRT so we didnt want to get too stuffed from an early lunch. Just needed something to tide us over so we ordered 2 double cheeseburger combos, 2 "extra" buns, and chili cheese fries. Everyone got a burger made to order with their own fixins and fries and still had room for the wonderful meal in the palace. The buns only cost me $1.38 OOP and got the chili cheese fries as a snack credit. The meal as a DDP meal was about $38.00.
