How wet do you get on rides at IOA?

Are there water rides at IOA where you get wet? If so, what do people typically wear to the park? I am thinking wet jean shorts could get pretty uncomfortable.

Yes, there are water rides where you get wet, and in fact there are rides where we always seem to get completely drenched. Usually I wear like yoga pants/shorts and tshirts to the parks, as they will dry faster by far than denim. You are right, being wet in denim is not a particularly fun experience, and it takes FOREVER for denim to dry back out.

Not too bad on Jurassic Park but the other 2 water rides you'll get drenched on. We were there last week. I chickened out last second on the white water ride cause I'd finally dried out from the Ripsaw Falls and didn't want to get soaked again. Hubby came off saying he couldn't be any wetter if he'd have just swam through. They were all soaked. The kids actually brought on some tears thinking it'd mean they could go back to our resort (at Disney) and change clothes.

Just FYI, I have been soaked on JP on occasion. Not sure why, as it's not the norm but it definitely can happen.

Us too.

More often than not we get soaked on JP.......couple of times in July we came off bone dry, but mostly we get drenched.

DS thinks he`s a water magnet!!!

You can get soaked on all three. Guess I am a water magnet too, as JP got me wet, but not as wet as the other 2. JP has wet seats to start, so your butt is wet before even moving. On the Falls, I got pretty wet. The Barges can make you look like you were in the shower. I would hate to be wet in denim.

I wear quick dry shorts and shirt over my bathing suit. My DD11 wears her tankini top or quick dry shirt and quick dry shorts. DS14 wears his boardshorts and quick dry shirt. We all wear flip flops or Keens.

You can always rent a locker and keep a towel and change of clothes if you want to stay in the park all day.

Others have kinda mentioned it.... but here's my take.

Jurrasic Park River Adventure: You may just end up with a wet butt (from the seat) and a strong misting.... Or you could end up drenched. it's all luck of the draw on where you end up sitting, and the load in the boat.

RipSaw Falls: You will end up wet. You MAY end up soaked.

Popeye's Bilge Rafts: There is a 98% chance you will be completely soaked from head to toe. There has been the RARE occasion that SOMEHOW I ended up leaving completely dry by somehow missing out on all the big splashes and water drops due to the rotation of the raft. If you hit even ONE of them, You'll end up drenched.

As for what I wear, when I go and intend to ride either Ripsaw or Popeye, I'll wear a bathing suit and a quick-dry workout shirt.... and Sandals (shoes are required on the ride). i'll often have another shirt I'll either swap out of, or just wear on top of the workout shirt during the rest of the day.

Jurrasic park I often don't do much of anything special. with the seat layout I can often hide my feet from the seat in front of me to avoid soaking my sneakers (which can feel horrible the rest of the day). I wouldn't recommend wearing denim though since the dry out period (and chaffing) would get annoying.

There are whole-body dryers near popeye and Ripsaw, but they are expensive, and I don't know how effective they are.

I've only been on JP once so I won't include that.

But with the others, they don't even PRETEND you might not get wet. They might as well just dump a bucket of water on you at the beginning of the ride to end the suspense. :)

This is just another benefit of staying onsite - being able to zip back to change. We always plan a morning for the water rides.

When staying offsite, you can pretty much do the same thing. Just plan on a wet day - wear clothes that dry quickly and appropriate foot wear. You can also plan the 3 water rides at the very end of the day and head back after riding them.

:rolleyes1yep you can get drenched here (just saw your seaworld post with same question)

some form of quick dry shorts is the best plan (all the way down to the undies) nylon ... board shorts, something like that. Denim ... bad idea. T-shirt or quick dry again a good idea and don't forget to consider the color when WET and what you have on underneath . . . . :scratchin

Additional thought - it can get pretty darn chilly in Orlando in the winter and wet clothes just make that all the worse . . . :(

My boyfriend and his brother got completely soaked on all the water rides! They also told me that you don't get very wet on JP, so I went on it. I got so soaked! It took me awhile to dry off and it would have been way worse had I been wearing denim shorts. I went back on the water rides later in the day and wore my poncho that I had bought at Walmart. The poncho worked great and I stayed completely dry! It was much easier doing it that way since I didn't have to worry about bringing a change of clothes or bathing suit, messing with lockers and I could wear my bag under the poncho to protect it too! :thumbsup2

Jurassic park is hit or miss, usually you will come out fairly dry. I used to think the same for Ripsaw falls but you might make it all the way through the ride just fairly wet and confident you have escaped the worst to then go through the gauntlet of water cannons that people are pumping quarters in to. You end up completely soaked from being shot with the cannons. As far as Popeye goes, your chance of staying less than drenched is very unlikely. There is water pouring from everywhere and once again you have the water cannons. These water rides are fantastic and are great when staying on site and just coming on the rides in your swim stuff but can definitely be miserable walking around with wet shoes and wet jeans if your not staying on site. I truly love these rides but really wish they would get rid of the water cannons.

you can get this wet

Oh no....we love those water cannons ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Particularly the shower head ones on Popeye :thumbsup2

We spent about $20 each one day (and most days) and laughed till we hurt at peoples reactions when they didn`t expect it.

We also don`t mind people soaking us when we`re on the water rides. In fact we`re disappointed if no-one does :wave2:

We used one in 2009, last trip, cost $5 and six of us were able to squeeze in. Lasts maybe five minutes, uses hot air and radiant heat. You don't get dry, but you will lose most of the excess moisture, making the rest of the day manageable. But, like others have posted, I would not wear denim or cotton shirts on the rides, I'd go with board shorts & quick dry shirts. And I recommend keeping a comb handy, if your hair is important to you.

You likely will get soaked on the Barges, 99.5% chance that at least part of you will be soaked. But, a great, hilarious ride, not to be missed IMHO.

The bilge rat barges are super fun but do expect to get soaked. I remember grumbling that I would have been dryer if I'd taken a shower in the hotel room.

I would wear light cotton that isn't see-through when wet! A lot of people forget about that.
