How were the "interior" corridors of AOA?

I'm curious to know this because one thing I learned to love during our ASMovies trip was not having them. Less doors to open when you're carrying foodcourt trays, poolgear, bags of souvies... etc. :thumbsup2 I also liked being able to open up to the day sometimes to get fresh air in the room and people watch to see what's happenin' out there!

Pics would be great and details... ie: is it cardswipe or RFID?

I just saw my first picture of the AoA corridors in the AoA thread. Someone posted a nice picture in that thread.. I was a little worried that I wouldn't like them but I do! I also was dumb enough to click on some post that said something about snakes trying to slide in the ground floor rooms? So now I want high floors or indoor corridors!!

Just checked out of AoA this morning. We stayed in Nemo and the indoor corridors are beautiful. Lots of big, beautiful Nemo artwork. The carpets mimic the Eastern Australian Current. The rooms are RFID and sometimes you need to use your room key to get into the building. One word of warning - the room walls do not keep sound out from the hallways. We heard people up until 11:30 pm or so walking and running down the hallways talking, screaming, etc. I wore earplugs to sleep starting on our second night and that solved the problem for me.

All doors are RFID...no cards swiped to open doors. I posted some pics that may include some corridor shots, but the main AoA thread has some that were posted either yesterday or today.

If you have ever stayed CR in the outer buildings, it's very similar to that - without the funky smell.

On the new RFID cards, how close do you need to be to the lock? And do you need to have the card out?

The Contemporary Resort has a "funky smell"?

You have to be basically tap the lock for it to work correctly. I tried it moving it slowly towards the lock and it finally unlocked when I was just about touching it. I always had it in my pocket and took it out when we needed to open our room door or the gate to the pool.

Yep. The old outer buildings have a musty smell to them. Most of the time it's covered up, but nonetheless the smell is still there. Sometimes it's noticeable, sometimes it's not. Once you walk in a corridor at AoA, all you smell is new carpet. Not the same experience when walking down the hall in an outer building at CR. During our stay earlier this month, we had family staying at CR and could really tell the difference. We've stayed CR a half-dozen times and we've always noticed the smell.

raven69...what are the "old outer buildings"? Are they the single story buildings that are along the water's edge on Bay Lake? What's the purpose for them...are they larger than the ones in the A-frame?

I've always tried to figure out what those buildings were because they seemed so un-Disneylike(no theming, very plain, etc.).
