How We Almost Lost Grandpa THREE TIMES!!! 4/29: A New Update--FINALLY!!!

Glad you made it to the airport. I think we had that same snow storm in mid Dec. but it was nothing like we've had this month. Without an all wheel drive we couldn't have gotten out of our long driveway.

We took our DD4, DS6 & DS8 to WDW for the first time in 1974 and spoiled them for the next 6 yrs with return trips. They didn't mind being spoiled at all. DD now 39 doesn't remember much of that first trip but she's our Disney expert now & is working on turning her own children into Disney fanatics. She's been to the World 14 times so far.

I'll be staying tuned.

That is so great! I think that is what's so cool about WDW--it's a place the whole family can enjoy (and keep enjoying) together.

When is your next trip?

Hi! I'm subbing. popcorn::

:welcome:

It is the best! Where are you staying? How long will you be there? I'm so excited for you!

We haven't completely decided where to stay yet... kind of torn between the Christmas decor at the Wilderness Lodge and the proximity of one of the Epcot resorts. We have a couple more months to figure it out for sure though.

Eagerly awaiting your next installment!

Next trip will be in late Aug or early Oct. depending on DDs work schedule.

How fun! I loved it when we went in early October. I think that was the least-crowded time.
Are you DVC members, do you stay at WDW resorts, or do you stay off property?

I'm sure it will be great, wherever you stay.
I'm going to try to upload some pics tonight and add the next installment of this report!

No, we are not DVC members. I was leaning that way a number of times but decided not to be tied to Disney for every vacation. If the Stock Market turns around in the next few years I might join and pass it on to my children.

We have tried seven different resorts over the years, CR, Poly, GF, SSR, CBR, POR & CSR. My favorite is CR and my DW's favorite is Poly. It will be one of those this year I'm sure.

:wave2: I'm here!!!!!!

:cheer2: Woohoo! Hi Jenny!

Both great choices (even though I haven't stayed at either one :sad1: ) I hope you'll be doing a trip report or a pre-trip report or both!

Well, the day had finally arrived! I was expecting to wake up to the lovely sound of my alarm around 5 a.m. Instead, I woke up to a sick husband.

DH wasn't feeling so well, grandma was worried, and there was a storm coming . . . sounds like a great way to start a trip, doesn't it?

As we were waiting for the plane to leave, we were debating on whether DH is going to survive this flight. We were thinking about trying to delay the flight or just cancel the trip altogether (NOTE TO SELF: ALWAYS BUY TRIP INSURANCE!!!) DH spent some quality time lying on the floor of the airport but started to feel better. He wasn't feeling great, but he was going to make it! :cool1: DH wants me to mention how heroic he was to sacrifice his well-being for the good of the group. He's a trooper!

Luckily, we ran into someone we knew, from the little town where we're all from, who was on the same flight as we were. And, even more luckily, he was a doctor! DH WAS GOING TO LIVE!!!!!

And now, for the next obstacle--the snow! The weather reports had been saying a big storm was going to hit Saturday morning. When we got to the airport, the flurries had begun, but as we sat inside the airport, the snow grew heavier and heavier. About 30 minutes before we were supposed to board, we were told that there was a snow warning, and no planes were taking off for a while. So, we settled down for a bit of a wait.

To our surprise, it wasn't much later that the flight started to board. We got ready and gathered our stuff, but---WHERE WAS GRANDPA? :confused3 He had taken off, and here we were ready to board the plane, and in retrospect it doesn't seem like a big deal, but at the time, I thought the world was coming to an end! Because it was Southwest, I jumped in line so I could save seats for the group, DH went looking for Grandpa, and Grandma held :yoda: and waited for everybody to arrive. I was sure relieved when I saw everyone not too far behind me!

Once we got boarded and de-iced, we were in the air. :yoda: did quite well for his first flight, but DH still didn't feel so good. It was a rough flight for him.

So, if you're keeping track, we've almost lost Grandpa once--when will he almost get lost again? Tune in for my next installment soon!
(I do have pictures, I swear--I just didn't take any in the airport.)

Yay! It's begun!

Tell DH that I think it was very noble of him to soldier on! lol. How lucky you ran into a doctor!

Hi Bev

I have to admire your dedication to your husband - true love indeed  I'm ashamed to admit my response to my husband in that situation would have been far less sympathetic ;)

As to the subject of the wandering Grandpa - my DH did the same thing. He had wandered off, DS in tow, no phone (because why would he ever bother?) when our gate was announced......way on the other side of the airport! Lets just say words were exchanged...:snooty:

I will let him know--he will appreciate it! It's good we didn't actually need a doctor, but it was nice knowing we had one on the plane, just in case.

:rotfl2: There was definitely some stress about him being sick on trip day, but I wasn't too worried because I was pretty sure it was a bad reaction to the KFC from the night before and that it would pass, which it did!

:rotfl: Why did he do that? I'd be a little miffed too!

I hope everybody's got some fun weekend plans!

I'm so glad your DH was such a trooper :rotfl: I'd have been freaking out at losing Grandpa too, doesn't bode well for WDW :rotfl2:

Sorry for the delay . . .
I was planning on continuing my saga tonight, but I got home from work, and I feel like someone has stepped on my head 392 times. I think I'll be going to bed soon, :crazy2: but please keep reading! (As soon as I post something!)

Why did he do it? Who knows what goes on that mans head? He was bored apparently - so was I, but I didn't go a wanderin' with no means of communication whilst we were waiting on our flight being announced. Of course he never thought to look to check if it had been announced either. Men! :sad2:
