How To Use Magic Band+

I feel we need one place to talk each other thru setting up and using this Band+ in Disneyland - much the way we all sorted out Genie+ and Individual Lightening Lanes. Here is my 2 cents worth but I hope we as a group can add more detail. Disney's instructions are just not that helpful.

I purchased a band yesterday for a two-day Disneyland/California Adventure trip - and here is what I "can" share personally, but I admit I was not thinking of posting on Disboards or would have written down steps. My apologies.

1) Bands are easy to purchase at any of the bigger in-park stores. They have huge walls of them, but honestly only a few designs. You'll get the usual discount if you have a Magic Key Pass - I think there were three price points, with the confusing color codes, then look for prices on a separate placard. Disneyland only sells the Band+ so I think you're just paying for "looks."
2) The one I purchased came only partially charged. To link it I went into my Disneyland App on my ANDROID phone, click the three bars in the lower right, and find the MagicBand+ Box to click. It wanted to "update" the band's software right away but did not have the power to do so. I linked it to my Magic Key account (seriously... I just kept holding it to my phone and following the same prompts over and over until it worked - by some random number of tries to answer confusing prompts) - I would tell you what I did but it was a blurr after about 5 minutes. You'll also want to look in Bluetooth on your phone to pair it (look for MagicBand+ #### (last four # of your band) - the App kept trying to connect thru a Browser to do that? At some point, it will also make you sign into your usual Disney Account, of course. You're linking the band to your phone AND your Disney Account.
3) Day two, after charging overnight (charger cable "snugs" onto the band, then that plugs into any regular USB outlet) - it worked fine to get me into the Park with my pre-existing Reservation. I also downloaded the Play Disney App for my Android from Google Play before going to the Park - I assume I linked those before heading out (see above random following of Disney prompts again).
4) Bounty Hunting: With band on, and Large Starbucks Coffee in hand, I headed to Galaxy's Edge to try out Bounty Hunting. You start at a machine near where a bunch of small star fighters are parked - ask a Cast Member to point you that way. The machine reads your band (waive it over the obvious dot), and gives you a "Bounty" creature/robot to locate. There is nobody there to explain anything, so watch the short video on the machine. Basically, your band turns green and does a fast pulse if you go the right way, red and slow pulse means wrong way. It sent me the wrong way a couple times (I overshot stairs), so be prepared to backtrack. You'll get a fast pulse when near one or more wall placards (my two different Bounties were near closed doors), if you tap on the placard and your band face turns purple you are (sortof) there. Now, open your Play Disney App (be patient, mine froze up a lot) and find the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters game and hit "play." You'll want to look at the top of that App - it categorizes games by Home, Disneyland, Magic Kingdom etc. Obviously, you are looking under Disneyland - follow the prompts (lol). While still at the general location where you held your band to a dot on a placard to turn purple, Launch the Thermal Viewer (orange button) in the Play Disney and look at the door thru your phone image. Your Bounty's silhouette should appear, click another prompt and the Bounty will be clearly visible. Hooray! Now walk back to the machine where you were assigned that Bounty again, but to the right you'll find the PayMaster or something like that, insert your hand with the band in the slot and it will talk to you, and give you your "credits" for the Bounty. If you want another Bounty, just step to the left where the first machine is again, and go thru the steps to get another Bounty (it will not play that explaining video again).
5) Lighting up: it did light up during the fireworks and a couple times in the park - by the time I looked it was done - so was not much of an effect.

Hope this helps someone! P.S. I am sooo embarrassed by the long explanation above, but I (and about six other sets of people this morning - who were equally confused) would have appreciated even this much of a head start. We wondered if putting all that near the Oga's Cantina (liquor) was in fact, a pre-thought part of the whole plan?

I'm going back before the holidays - does anyone have any hints to share - or places the band "does" something like lighting up or interaction with something in the park?

I was only there for one day, but here's what I noticed or have heard of:

- Obviously, it lights up and vibrates during fireworks, Fantasmic and WOC. I didn't see WOC that night, but I can 100% vouch for lots of interaction during fireworks/Fantasmic.

- It makes an ooky little noise when you scan your LL for Haunted Mansion. (To the point that I was so stupidly excited, that I had to turn back to my family and sternly tell them, "MAKE SURE YOU LISTEN".) I have also heard it pulses red like a heartbeat when you're leaving, but it didn't do that for us. (Keep in mind, we did not exit the normal way, because we had an ECV, so that may be why.)

- It lights up like a multi-colored party light during GOTG.

- We did not ride Webslingers, but I heard it also lights up during that.

- It lit up a few times during the Guardians Dance-Off in Avenger's Campus.

- I've heard it lights up like sky/clouds for Soarin', but we didn't ride that either.

I feel like I am definitely forgetting a couple of things, and there's a few things I didn't ride since it was just a one day trip, so I can't verify. But, I'll be back for a longer trip in January so will definitely explore more then.

I've been told the band does something (lights and/or sound) when you pass Little Leota as you exit. I didn't hear/see it either since I use an ECV.

I won't have an ECV with me on my next trip (it's a family member who uses it), so I will probably see it then. It does make sense though, since they have to take you out through the exit when you're with an ECV.

I was in the parks with my MB+ for the first time last week (Nov 30-12/2). It was chilly so I had a coat on a lot of the time, so I know I didn't see some of the things the MB+ was doing. However, I remember....

It buzzes at the end of Buzz, with green and purple lights.

I remember the heart beat buzz at the end of Haunted Mansion.

Something happened with Fantasmic, but I want paying a lot of attention.

As a (now retired) military family, I live watching the Flag Retreat ceremony. ... the MB+ loved it too, buzzing and flashing red, white and blue.

I don't remember much of what it did in DCA at this point.

I had "silly" fun with it. Like it's not necessary for a good time in the parks, obviously. But it was still fun and the interactions were like little extra surprises :)
