How do you tell somone they are going to Disney World? Heres the back story: My mom in January suprised me with a last minute trip in February. She asked me to come over for lunch and started talking about planning a trip, I thought it was for another trip with my aunts and uncles like their last two trips, but she started talking about us going and it took me a few minutes to figure it out. I had a trip for May already started with my boyfriend but with his new job he can't go. I kept planning it and paying for it and now I want to take my mom. So how do I tell her that she is going? I am thinking about telling her on Easter, 20 days before the trip.
PS She doesnt have a job so waiting this long won't be a big deal.

I too, am wondering how I'm gonna tell my mom. I got a surprise birthday trip in the works for her for september...I think what I'm gonna do is have one of the nice girls on the disigns board make up a nice invite saying something like "your daughters request your presence at FW DWR from Sept 15 to sept 19th for your birthday" Something like that. I gotta work on the wording! :) But I am gonna have a nice invite printed out, and then I'll plop all the info down, and take orders for breakfast and stuff. When I told my dad and Stepmom we were going in May, I printed out all pertenent info, and had the visual to fall back on, and they were just like, Okay, we'll follow you....and stuff like that, with a invite for DH's birthday dinner at Kona...they were like, "what's this" so I told them. They especially like the fact that it's paid for, and all they have to do is pay for their one day tickets, which was the original agreement. I decided to get a hotel over there, vs drive 45 mins for just one day. That way we can take in more of the area besides the parks. Do what you think your mom will like, if she wants you to flat out tell her, or do up some kind of nice invite. It's up to you!

We are surprising DD7 with a trip for her birthday. I had this DISign made up to put on a tshirt (post #162 is the final version)

THANKS 5clark5!!!!!

We are going to give her a very special birthday present - even though it is really 2 days before her birthday- right after we pick her up from school, and then wer pretty much have to leave for the airport. The only problem is packing in secret!!

How bout you DON't Tell her?

Stay with me for a minute ;)

If you are flying, prepack everything, put it in the car and ask whoever it is to go to the store (or whatever) with you. then just show up at the airport.

You can kinda do the same thing with driving. just start heading out and make sure your purposefully drive past the place you told her you were going. then when she says "duh, you missed it" you say something like, "o look in the glove compartment" and have the tickkets in there.. or something like that.

If you live close, within an hour or two, i would say, don't say word until you get there!

lol but thats just me...

Here's an idea I thought about using to suprise my sister with a trip. Does your mom collect Disney Pins? If so, make an Easter basket for her and in each easter egg, put one of her pins. Make is so that the last egg she opens is a Disney 2009 pin. Then, ask she sits puzzled (or maybe she'll already know), tell her "suprise! we're going to disney world!" I thought it would make a great Easter suprise :)

We had planned to stay in the province for the summer this year, then told our daughter (8) we couldn't afford it and had to go somewhere cheaper. Then we popped in the Disney CD and we were about 5 minutes in before she realized it and she lost it. Wish I had it on tape.

We did this in December for our Disney Cruise..told my daughter on the way to the port. Luckily, I did have the camcorder going...she started crying!!:rotfl: Happy tears..but it was so funny.

When GD was 4 she thought she was going to airport because I was flying to Arizona for work. Pulling into airport I told her I wanted to go some where fun and we were going to wdw was so much fun to see her face light up, she had been to the world 2 times before. I have another suprise trip planned for GD & DD for Dec. 3-13 although DD knows about it. Planning to give invitation to both of them after thanksgiving dinner with a red and green mickey braclets I already have for them. We have told GD I would not have money for another trip untill she is 16 she has been 5 times and is 8 so we had told her she would have to wait. I hope I can keep this trip a secret untill its time to tell

Just a thought, your mom may not be complicated but some are for a reason or two....

With an older person, there are medications and personal items they have to have notice to get ready. Just keep that in mind...I know my mom would need a few days to get hair cut, press clothes, get meds organized.

LOL, my MIL packs her case 1 week before she leaves anywhere.

Two years ago DH and myself were going to WDW for our 30th wedding anniversary. We were looking forward to going and yet knew our kids and two grandsons would not be there. When we got to the airport that morning to leave, and as we were standing in line, i felt a tug on my shorts and turned and saw my grandson who was 4 at the time and said what are you doing here? His reply was we are going to Disney with you and Papa, they surprised us. I asked my Ddnl after how she kept him from telling us and she said they kept it from him until bed time the night before and presented him with a special note and an invitation to go to WDW. It was one of the nicest surprises we ever had. Heading back in September and looking forward to seeing if we will have little surprises waiting for us...

I told my mom last week that we are taking her next fall. She's been with us before but this year we are going alone. Since we like to plan trips so far in advance, we already have one planned for Thanksgiving of next year. We usually go to her house for Thanksgiving, so I emailed her very nonchalantly, and said that we won't be at her house for Thanksgiving next year, but that, then again, she wouldn't be either! Then at the bottom of the email, I put "Disney?"

Sounds a little cheesy doing it in an email, but it was more fun for me because then she has time to realize it on her own...before I call her. I did the same thing when I got engaged (and we lived 8 hours apart)...I took a picture of the ring on my hand and emailed that, nothing else. I got a call shortly afterwards!

That's cute!!! I like that. I know the date I'm gonna tell mine, she is the type that would want to know ahead of time, to "save" so she thinks she's "helping" Even tho my DSIS and I aren't gonna let her pay for much :rolleyes1 She won't like that, but oh well!! She'll have fun, and I am working on the wording for the invite to tell her....just not sure on the wording, and I'll slip it to her at dinner or something like that. It is killing me not to tell her!! ! :scared:

Order the customized maps on disney.go.com. They are beautiful. You can pick everything to labeled on the maps or you can pick you favorite things. They don't leave anthing off, they just label everything else as things you may also like to do, or something like that.

I do have the customized maps, and the vacation planning DVD. So, I may incorporate those into the telling...I don't know yet. She may want to see those just for the info that's in them. Plus I'm gonna start asking questions like what she'll want to make for breakfast, etc. what she wants to drink...stuff like that, just so I know I get the right stuff!!
