Well that is a shame to the Luau was a bust. We have never tried it, but I do like the idea of unlimited beer and wine. I swear you are the queen of the food and wine reviews! Thanks for sharing all the goodness, and love all the little Remy photos :) Merry Christmas!!

I can not even imagine how, stressful it must have been to be there during the hurricane!

Those fish tacos that you said you loved, sound like the fish tacos from El Vez in Philly. Sooooooo good. I dream about them!

I know! My timing will likely never be that good again

I came so close to getting those on Black Friday! I had to really stop myself. Did you get them for Christmas?

Oh nice! Did he like them?

It was a weird meal. Doubt I will be back there unless it is really different.

Those burgers were delicious! And at least the rain kept people away. :thumbsup2 My husband swears the ponchos do nothing, but at least a small part of me was dry.

You must get them next time for sure! I can't wait to have one soon!

Yeah, I definitely do not recommend the luau. It would take big changes to get me back there.

The burger was excellent. Love fried green tomatoes! I love all the places at Disney Springs. It's hard to eat anywhere else now!

Next update is our hurricane experience. Ugh. lol

The unlimited beer and wine was what sold us. Too bad I didn't get my money's worth out of it. I need to somehow weasel my way down there for F&W this year. I love it so much! Hope you and your family had a good Christmas!

Thank you! You and your hubby should definitely go for F&W next year. It's a blast!

The actual day of was fine, it was the changes to our travel that was the stressful part.

I looked at the menu for El Vez and now I must go! It sounds delicious!

    Yesssssss!!!!

So, this is where my notes stop. I planned to finish them on the train ride home but...

I apologize if my details are not the greatest for the remainder of my DR.

These next two days were the days I was looking forward to. F&W on our own. Movies and Homecoming in the evening. Eat to the Beat concerts. Sounds perfect. I didn't care if it rained. I mean, I did, but it wouldn't be so bad. Then all this hurricane nonsense messed us all up. I still had every intention of following through with our plan though. We would get up early and do what we could at F&W before retiring to an evening at Disney Springs.

We got to Epcot not long after park opening and it varied from a slight drizzle to nothing at all. Win! And all this hurricane talk kept people out of Epcot. Double win! So, we did Soarin' and Living with the Land and Nemo. Then as we were hanging around waiting for booths to open all music stopped. It was eerie. Then they came on over the PA system and announced that Epcot and all parks would be closing at 5pm today and all parks would be closed tomorrow. :scared1: What?!?!? Craziness. Well, this I did not anticipate. I checked the movie theater and found out that they, along with all of Disney Springs, would also be closing at 5pm. Well, poop. I guess we better get our time in now!

We went over to Norway to check on the wait for Frozen, which I had no FP for this trip and we still had yet to ride.

Rob was willing to wait the 45 minutes with me. Yay!

It was super cute and the wait only ended up being about 20 minutes. Awesome!

After we came out of the ride it was starting to rain a bit, so we put on our ponchos and stopped at China to have Sichuan Spicy Chicken and a Strawberry Plum Wine Cooler again.

Then we doubled back and went to New Zealand.

Rob had the Lamb Meatball with Spicy Tomato Chutney.

They have at this at previous festivals and it is always a favorite for us.

I got another one of my past festival favorites, the Steamed Green Lip Mussels with Garlic Butter and Toasted Breadcrumbs.

I love these! The flavor is incredible.

Then I went to Farm Fresh.

You can see they already started removing the signs from the booths and the large large free standing menus outside of each booth were gone. Storm prep in full swing!

Here I got the Loaded Mac 'n' Cheese.

Yum!!!!!!!!! I am picky about Mac n cheese and this lived up to my loft standards. The bacon was so crisp and smoky and and I loved the green onion.

I also got Two Henrys Elderberry Hard Cider.

This was so good! I just tried to get it where I live and they told me it was only available in Florida. Bummer. But this was delicious!

Then we went to Greenhouse Guru. This stand was a disappointment. The CMs were lazy/rude and barely acknowledged our presence and then to top it off, we didn't like the food.

I got the Chilled Tomato Gazpacho with Lump Crab Meat.

This was way too chunky for my taste and honestly, cold crab meat is slightly ick.

Rob got the Duck Confit with Creamy Polenta and Fire-Roasted Salsa.

He was not feeling this dish at all.

Then we stopped next door to the Chocolate Studio where Rob got the Ghirardelli Chocolate Raspberry Torte.

This was as decadent as it looked. He really enjoyed this dessert.

Next I stopped in Ireland because I had to have the Warm Chocolate Pudding one last time.

We really wanted to stick around since it was looking like, with the park closure the next day, it would be our last chance for F&W goodies, but we wanted to get some food for the next day and get back to the room.

I was totally not trusting our ability to be able to get food at the resort the next day and as I stalked Facebook it looked like food and movies at Disney Springs was not happening the next day. Look at this post.

So, I made Rob stop at the bakery in France to get a few treats for the next 36 hours. Then he wanted to go to the Boardwalk Bakery, so we went out the back exit and walked over to Boardwalk. This is where the stress starts.

Just as we are about to walk into the bakery my phone rings and I answer. It was an automated message from Amtrak telling me that our train on Saturday (today was Thursday) was cancelled. That was it. No other info. Needless to say, I panicked. I called Amtrak and found that they could switch us to a train leaving Monday. Oh good Lord. Two more days. Rob was out of vacation and I was nearly out. We had someone watching our dog. I had things to do at work. We had no hotel. So, me being me, I jumped into planner mode and started figuring some things out. Rebooked the train and the town car service. Called work and logged into systems from my phone to do a few important things. Called family. All while in line at the bakery and on the bus to Disney Springs.

We got to Disney Springs and I knew we did not have enough food, so we stopped at WPE for a few additional items. Pizza! Perfect to reheat or even eat cold if heaven forbid we lose power. And for once it was totally empty in here! And everyone was super nice and all abuzz from hurricane craziness. As we were waiting to order the skies opened up and it just POURED! Thankfully it was only drizzling by the time our food was done.

We made the short walk over to our room and dropped off the food, then we hopped on a bus to go over to the lobby to find out about booking a room for two more nights.

Everyone else had some type of issue as well, so it was a long wait and after about 45 minutes we were told to call the reservation line because they couldn't do anything for us. Seriously?! I was pretty annoyed if I'm being honest. I was well aware that EVERYONE had a story and an issue and I'm sure the CMs were being put through it today, but after that long wait we were brushed aside. So, I go sit on a bench and call the reservation line. No availability at SSR, but they could get us in at GF, CS or OKW. We opted for OKW in a studio. We at least got a pass holder rate, but there went a good $500+ we were not anticipating. Ugh.

Then we went to get alcohol, because, why the heck not?! But the lobby was a madhouse. INSANITY! I was soooooo glad I had the foresight to get food elsewhere since everyone else waited until they got to their resort. The line looked at least 90 minutes long. No sir. So, we went back to our building and Rob walked back over to Disney Springs to get a bottle of wine from the store right across from WPE. And I raided the soda machine for a couple of sodas and bottle of water. And the soda machine ate $5. Salt in the wound. But I finally got my drinks.

Now we were in for the night. The first thing we ate later was a pizza from WPE. Just plain cheese and it was delicious.

    And we had some wine.

And I ate my red velvet Sprinkles cupcake from the night before which was AMAZING!

I sat in the whirlpool tub for hours and talked to family and friends back at home to regale them with our stranded in Disney World stories from today. And we watched hurricane coverage because it was the only thing on tv. Then we went to bed praying for our safety and the safety of everyone else in Hurricane Matthew's path. We tried not to the let the other craziness drown out the seriousness of this situation.

WOW! SO much crazy! Im glad that you were able to get food outside of the resort food court - that was a smart idea!

And you can't weather a hurricane (or tornade where I am from ) without some sort of alchcol -

We fell asleep fairly early the night before and expected to be awoken throughout the night by the storm but we didn't hear a thing. When we woke up around 8am it was windy and rainy for sure, but not bad at all. It was weird to see no one at Disney Springs all morning and afternoon.

Power was still on, so I made us coffee and ate the muffins we got from Boardwalk Bakery the day before.

Check out this weird sight on the MDE app. So strange to see the parks closed!

This was strange too. Look at all the road closures on the map!

Now, the moment you have been waiting for (Or maybe you don't care at all ). How I got the name of this thread!

Well, before we went back to our room the day before, we stopped by the little rec center at SSR and rented two movies. Captain Ron and Tombstone. We somehow ended up with two Kurt Russell movies! Happy coincidence. All that was on tv was hurricane coverage, so Kurt Russell movie marathon it is! Thanks Kurt Russell for keeping us sane while we were stuck inside for 24 hours. :thumbsup2

Part way through the second movie it was time for a lunch break. I heated up the yummy bacon bread I bought from the French bakery.

Yum!!!!! If you have not tried this before, you totally should. It is excellent.

Then I had the sugar cookie I bought from WPE.

And Rob, for some reason, got a meatball sandwich from the Boardwalk Bakery. Weird choice, but I heated it up in the oven on a baking sheet and he enjoyed it.

Between all the use I got out of the whirlpool tub and now the oven, I was so glad we had the one bedroom instead of the studio this trip. Plus, I had to wash clothes since I didn't pack enough clothes to accommodate our added days, so the washer and dryer worked out well too. And it was nice to have room to spread out and walk around while we were stuck inside. Kept us from going stir crazy.

During this time I was also all over social media looking at what others were doing who were in WDW and what was going on at other resorts. At this point it wasn't even raining and I heard rumblings of Disney Springs reopening for the evening. Exciting!!!! Today was our 11 year anniversary of our first date and I wanted out of the room and out of my pjs to feel like a real person. Please, please, please reopen Disney Springs!

We decided to get out of the room and go for a walk, so we walked over to the lobby just as they were getting ready to reopen the pool.

I posted a time lapse video from around the resort on Instagram and other than some small branches and general debris from nature, nothing was amiss. It was nice to get out and walk around. Then it was announced that Disney Springs was reopening with some stores and restaurants at 5pm. Yay!!!!!!! We got ready and the second I saw people walking around DS I yanked Rob out of the room.

They had a sign to show all of the stores and restaurants that were open tonight.

I'm so happy to be out of the room!!!

We were deciding where to eat. Rob was leaning towards RR and I was leaning towards Homecoming. Since we hadn't eaten there yet, Homecoming won out. And as it turns out it was the way to go because I heard later that RR had a VERY limited menu of like, five items.

When we arrived at Homecoming it was still fairly empty and seating was immediately available at the bar. Let me tell you, it was a good thing we got there when we did because within 30 minutes there was a two hour wait. Yay for being able to walk to Disney Springs!

I had been dying to eat here and I was super excited and had a hard time choosing what to order from the menu.

    But first, drinks!

I started with the Fig and Berries. Fresh muddled strawberries with Dobel Diamante Reposado Tequila, fig jam, agave and lime juice. This drink was so, so, so good!

Later I also got the Bootlegger. RumShine, and dark rum, blackberry jam, house-made grenadine, simple syrup and lime juice. This was also excellent!

Rob also had a Bootlegger and since he loves an Old Fashioned he decided to try their version, an Old Fashioned Elder. Michter's Bourbon, St. Germain Elderflower, dash of bitters, garnished with an orange peel and fancy cherry. He loved this drink!

For our meal we started out by ordering a side of cheddar cheese drop biscuits.

These are fairly similar to the cheddar biscuits you get from Red Lobster, but without the garlic flavor. They were excellent!

For my entree I went with the Fried Chicken and Doughnuts. Two pieces of Chef Art Smith's famous fried chicken served with house-made sugar doughnuts and creamy mashed potatoes with gravy.

    Oh. Emm. Freaking. Gee.

This was so good. Very similar to chicken and waffle, but even more decadent. And these mashed potatoes are for real the best mashed potatoes, or any kind of potato, I have ever eaten in my life. The gravy was heaven. I loved the syrup it came with. Amazing fried chicken. So good.

Rob had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Buttermilk-brined for 24 hours and double-battered, hot sauce aioli, dressed with iceberg lettuce, tomato and bread and butter pickles. Served with house-made barbecue chips drizzled with icebox dressing.

He really enjoyed his meal. I stole one of the chips and they were really good.

    Next was dessert.

I was torn between the Shine Cake and the Hummingbird Cake. Eventually I landed on the Shine Cake.

I was drooling just looking at this, but I did not care for this. It tasted so boozy to me. It was literally cake with moonshine. I did not care for the flavor. Sadly most of this went in the trash. It was the only misstep for me this meal, but that's okay. It was just a matter of taste for me.

Rob decided to get a bowl of Addie Mae's Chicken and Dumpling Soup for dessert. :confused3 What can I say, he's a weirdo.

He enjoyed it though, so who am I to judge.

I also have to mention the service here. We enjoyed eating at the bar and all the bartenders were super attentive and really friendly even though it was absolutely mobbed in there. They left a great impression on us.

I was so glad we were able to eat here and that we were able to get out and celebrate our anniversary. It was such a positive experience after 24 hours of stress. As luck would have it the movie theater was open and a showing of Girl on a Train, which I was dying to see, was just getting ready to start. Perfect!

By the time the movie was over there wasn't another movie we wanted to see starting for another hour or so. We walked around DS and it was really packed since it was the only place for all these resort guests to go. We decided to call it a night and headed back to the room. We had to get ready and pack up for our resort switch the next day.

Glad you enjoyed Homecoming! I haven't tried it yet but I have tried 1500 South 4 times now here in Naples which is the restaurant Art Smith opened a couple months before Homecoming. Knowing how amazing my meals at 1500 South have been, I can imagine how happy you were there! Isn't that fried chicken the best?

What was your movie count for 2016?

We had the same experience. In fact, I wrote it down in my notes one particular CM because she was outstandingly rude, but I never stopped at guest services to mention it.

Yes!! One of my favorite snacks. SO good!

It stinks that y'all were hurricane trapped but it truly does sound like you made the best of it. Glad you did not end up with one of those crappy boxed lunches I heard about...

Oh me too! I had one after we had Morimoto and I'd forgotten what I had but this was it! Yum.

So glad y'all had a great experience at homecoming. I totally agree with you about the potatoes and the service!

I was keeping tabs via the Disboards on how everyone was doing during the hurricane; I can imagine the stress and disappointment and even the worry, but it sounds like at least in the end it wasn't that bad for you guys! Although I wouldn't like to be stuck in my room for 24 hours :(
I really, really want to try Homecoming. DH isn't sold on it yet but he's already put in his restaurant request for our May trip so I think my request just might be Homecoming!

Looks like you two made the best of the situation, great thinking on your part to get some favorite food items before you got back to the resort! I had read the lines for the food at the resorts was awful and the box lunches were nothing special. Glad you got to try Homecoming, we want to try it in August this year when we go. The chicken sandwich and your entree look so delicious!

We arrived the Sunday after Hurricane Matthew and we had beautiful weather are whole stay so we really lucked out! Have you ever watched Overboard with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, so funny!

I was watching the news reports of people waiting in line for food being all 'apocalyptic' and generally terrible. I wondered if Disney kept you all well informed that week? Do you think it was poor planning on the guests for not preparing in advance or do you think Disney downplayed the possibility of things being closed or out of service?

I just kept thinking that if I was there that week, I would've been like, stashing food away here and there. Or at least making sure I had the basics just in case (wine and cupcakes!).

Sounds like you lucked out as best you can in that situation! I was very interested as to how everyone was going to manage with the storm.

I hope your 2 bonus days were worth the Vacation Days!
