Bugging You About Getting Married

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

LOL!! That's a good one. We don't get that sort of pressure from our families though, so I won't have the opportunity to use it. We've been together 8 years & the wedding is probably 3 years away.

I get the same thing about having kids! I just smile & walk away or change the subject. They usually get the point.

I wish I could take credit for it.....someone else emailed it to me!

This reminds me of what DH once said to his cousin & her DH, before we were married. They had 2 kids together before they got married. So, when they asked when we were going to get married, DH turned to them, with a very innocent expressiononhis face, and said "But we can't get married - we don't have any kids yet!"

It doesn't stop. Before it was "when are you going to get married?" Now it's "when are you going to have kids?" I'm sure when we have kids, they'll think of something new to ask!

katerkat....I've got the next one....at least for me...."When are you going to go to work, now that your kids are getting older?" (They're 8,6,4,2)

Or one we get all the time...."Are you done yet?" A salesman recently asked DH and I if we'd figured it out yet. I thought he meant parenthood so I replied, "No, we're still working on that one." He meant where babies came from!!:o Needless to say DH and the salesman were very embarrassed!

And you know, that is such a rude question..."when are you going to have kids?" I mean, how do people know that you haven't been trying to have kids for 10 years and can't and every time you hear that question it's like a knife in your heart????

Yes, the new question to ask will be "when are you going to have more children?" It doesn't stop!

It shouldn't be asked as "When are you ever going to have children?" It should be, "Do you want to have children?" It sounds less rude, although most people do not think (esp. family) before they speak.

nkjzmom--that's a great response. Made me laugh!;)
