How to save when doing laundry.

I don't know if this has ever been discussed but I remember paying a boatloud of coins to to laundry at the resorts. Well this year I want to the drug store and bought 5 boxes of travel size laundry detergent for 79 cents a box. Just thought I'd share the tip

I took some Wisk Laundry Tablets they come prepackaged in sets of two. And they were soft enough to rub on stains. I was impressed with how well they worked.

And I didn't have to worry about spilled deterent in our suitcases!!

What I usually do is if I get any samples of detergents or fabric softner during the year, I save them and take them with us when we go. (not that I relish the thought of doing laundry on vacation! )

I always carry my own detergent with me, and also the fabric softener sheets. I have found that the Purex or Wisk tabs are great, prepackaged, 2 to a pack, and sure saves a bundle when doing laundry. I hate the idea of washing clothes while on vacation, but sure beats wearing a dirty shirt or pair of shorts for a second day. I usually do wash on our "down day". Spend the time waiting for it to finish at the pool, relax with my resort mug and just enjoy being there.

I used the Tide tablets and dryer sheets the last time. It was easier to do laundry than pack so much. But I hated losing all that time. It seemed to take forever to dry.......So I'm debating doing it this year, it eats into our park time.

Disnee Dad Says...............................I love to do laundry on vacation!! I only do 5% of the laundry at home, so 100% on vacation seems fair. DD gets to swim, DW gets a break, and now that I figured out it takes two beers to wash, two beers to dry, and one beer to fold, I'm pretty happy by the time laundry is done!!

Gotta stay on topic! We get enough samples during the year, so detergent is free. Also we pack almost all cottons that don't bleed, so we can wash everything together if needed, but usually break it down to one white and one other. No lace, no silk, no satin, no delicates, no reds ( except my Mickey shirt washed many times already), no plastic. If I have to read the label it goes in the garbage instead of the washing machine!! LOL

I don't remember who makes them, but they now sell this "color magnet" sheet that catches any bleeding color in the washer so you probably can put everything in one load! (I would try it at home with some old white shirts and jeans before risking any Disney t-shirt! )

Here in the UK washing tablets are packaged in pairs, but I read an article once that said you need only use one tablet per wash and still get everything clean etc. and have done this ever since, and never had a problem with marks not coming out etc, the reason they want you to use two tablets is the more you use the more your gonna buy, but my box now last me twice as long and I still get clean laundry.

Disnee Dad ...too funny! I found that I just kept doing the laundry and kept dragging it out so that DH would consider that a good reason to get a one bedroom! But back to topic, I cut the dryer sheets in half and separate the laundry into two dryers, this speeds up the dry time. I use the tide tabs that I bring from home, before that I premeasured powder into ziplock bags. Usually, if the load is for the smaller top loading machiene you really only need to use one tab (unless the clothes are very heavily soiled).

I have used the color sheets from Shout and they are awesome. I have two DDs and I do a load of their laundry every other day (the 6 month old is messy). I just chuck all of there stuff in at once. Before, if I wansn't careful, the reds, no matter how little was on an outfit, ran. The color sheet catches it all. No more mess and the sheet actually comes out red.

They are $3.69 here at the grocery stores in NY, but they are worth every penny to me. It as saved a lot of clothes for me. They are like a dryer sheet (like Bounce). You could just pack them in the a baggie, like dryer sheets.

BTW, I never did laundry on vacation until I had kids. And I always bring my own stuff. It's less expensive and with the little one, I need Dreft, so I have the brands that I like.
