So we had turkey on Easter and I made a fabulous turkey stew with leftovers. It came out delish except I put too much of "pepper sensation" in it and now it is too spicy, rather than savory. Is there any way to cut the spiciness in the dish . This is budget related since I don't want to throw the whole pot of stew out , there are several nites servings in there!

You could try to add more of the other ingredients (except the pepper) or make a second batch without the seasoning and combine them. This will make a lot, but perhaps you can freeze the leftovers.

Hope you find something that works.

it already has a lot of potatoes in it. Maybe sour cream would work. Thanks for the suggestions, I would hate to throw it out.Maybe my dogs will like it if I can't salvage it.

My vote would be for either sour cream or plain yoghurt. You might also try adding some diced apple, apricots or raisins--kind of like a curry, to give some sweetness to your dish. You could also serve a raita on the side to take the edge off. Raita recipe: 1 cucumber (peeled, halved, seeded, chopped); 1 c. plain yoghurt; 1 T. finely chopped mint; 1/4 tsp. ground cumin; 1/4 tsp. salt. Stir ingredients together in a small bowl.

Brown sugar. It won't really *cut* the spiciness, but it will mask it, because it will balance the heat.

The other thing that will help is to serve it with a lot of unflavoured bread; bread absorbs the oil from the peppers, so it takes the residual sting out of your mouth. (Water, btw, does NOT have this effect. Milk does it somewhat, but bread is much better.)

The potato trick works for excess salt, but it really doesn't work on pepper oils.

If the sour cream doesn't work you could also try adding some cream cheese. Let us know if you find something that works.

Yummy, I have wanted the recipe for this for years. Did not know the name or ingredients, beyond cucumber and yogurt! Thanks!!!!! :)
