How to manage the Galloway Training for the Dopey when it clashes with other events?

I've got 3 other Fall half Marathon that I'll be using as training runs
But I do want to follow the Galloway "Dopey Training Programme" relatively closely --- It's a proven method by a professional, so I'm going to trust that process.
So I need to merge these!
  • Sep 22: Huffin Puffin Half (FYI, a Puffin is a seabird!)
  • ....As per the schedule, 22 Sep is a 21k training run anyway. So that one fits in nicely.
  • Oct 27: Niagara Falls Half
  • ....As per the schedule, this day should be 8k (5miles)... The prev wkend is 20 is 27 k (17 miles), and next weekend is 10k (6miles)...Then it jumps for Nov 10!
  • Nov 9: Wine & Dine Half in WDW!!!! It's just days before my 50th birthday!
  • ....As per the schedule, this weekend's distance is 14k walk, followed by 32k run the next day (8.5 & 20 miles), which would be my longest distance to date.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I'm confident I can complete the whole Dopey within the required time limits, even if I end up walking more than half.
-- I've never done a Marathon, but have done several Half Marathons/their equivalent in the 3 yrs I've been running. ...(18k this Sunday, then 23k, 6k, finally 25k in Saint Pierre Miquelon on Jun 22!)
-- Not a speedster, but my times range from 2h20 to 3hr at my slowest/first.
-- Lol! And let's not forget several back to back Disney days that bring in 10-18k each day....completely diff from running I know, but it does take stamina!:thumbsup2

So, I'm wondering:
  1. How should I rearrange the weeks around my Niagara Half?
  2. Nov 10: how do I get my extra 11k (7 miles) in? Addon before or after the W&D half? Or just do the extra distance earlier on the 10 or later on the 11th?:confused3
  3. I briefly considered upgrading Niagara to be a FULL:scared1: (training run pace), just to have had the benefit of having done the distance.
...but that would mean a total revamping of the plan...

I am a masters runner, too, and have much experience jumping off of and back onto a training schedule in order to incorporate a race (races).

I recommend beginning the Galloway training schedule, then replacing the Galloway training schedule a week (or weeks) before your race(s) with a taper that you have used successfully in the past. Taper, run your race, then replace the Galloway training schedule after your race with whatever recovery time you need. Then, jump back onto the Galloway training schedule.

I would not try to make up any missed workouts. I predict that you will be in tip-top shape when you toe the line (four times!!) at the Dopey :)

Good luck to you, and enjoy your training and racing :)

To be honest, I would email Jeff himself and ask. He's really good about answering questions about his training plans.

I am in a similar situation with the marathon. I am doing 2 1/2 marathons, Oct 20 & Nov 9, and a friend wants me to do a 5k with her in between them. The 1/2's are both lower mileage than what I should be doing those weekends. I would be really interested to see if you do email Jeff and what his response is!
